Amanda Seyfried says there's ‘uncanny similarity’ between her, Sydney Sweeney

IANS Photo

Los Angeles, (IANS): Hollywood actress Amanda Seyfried, who stars alongside Sydney in mystery-thriller film The Housemaid, says that she actually has a lot in common with her co-star and that the “similarity” between them is “uncanny”.

"There's a similarity between us that is uncanny, and it's really fun to work with people (who) are doing life in a similar way, have similar ideals about the job and life," Seyfried said to the BBC.

Seyfried plays a housewife who struggles with mental health issues in the movie, and she said that it was a challenging role to take on, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

Discussing her approach to the role, Seyfried shared: "You have to play it as realistic as possible because it needs to reflect real life."

Earlier this month, Seyfried heaped praise on Sweeney, describing her co-star as a "sweetheart".

She praised Sweeney for how she's coped with the pressures of fame and success.

The Hollywood star told Vanity Fair: "I don’t envy anything she’s going through. I’ve spent a lot of time with her; we just hit it off immediately. She’s a sweetheart. She’s a very generous, kind person at her core. I have to be honest: I did not have a moment like she’s having ever.

"(My Mean Girls co-star) Lindsay Lohan, we’re buddies, and it’s really, really, really harmful to people to have that kind of overnight spotlight. Because any press, good or bad, is still a blinding spotlight, and you have to maneuver and negotiate your way around it and outside of it. It’s acrobatics that I don’t think most people are capable of figuring it out at that age."

The actress thinks a sudden rise to stardom can actually be "dangerous". However, the actress praised Sydney for how she's coped with the extra attention.

She said: "It’s just dangerous, because when you have people … on you—or idolising you and following you around—it can’t be good for your psyche. It can’t make you feel safe in the world.“But I actually admire the way Syd shows up for work. She always has a smile on her face, even if she’s miserable. I hope it doesn’t change. I hope she doesn’t harden. I just want to keep watching her work. I have really great women in my life, great actors that I’ve gotten to work with and who have championed me.” Amanda Seyfried says there's ‘uncanny similarity’ between her, Sydney Sweeney | MorungExpress | morungexpress.com

Gwyneth Paltrow opens up on her to movies with ‘Marty Supreme'

os Angeles, (IANS) Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow has made her return to the big screen after a seven-year hiatus. She has been doing the kind of independent moviemaking she says has always been her favorite.

Her return in She features in a supporting performance in ‘Marty Supreme’, reports ‘Deadline’.

As Kay Stone, a former actress now living another life as the wife of a business mogul (played by none other than Shark Tank’s Kevin O’Leary in his acting debut), she proves she hasn’t lost a beat in terms of creating fascinating, three-dimensional characters.

As per ‘Deadline’, Marty Supreme broke records when it opened in a limited six-theater platform run last weekend, and the critically praised movie that stars Timothee Chalamet is releasing on Christmas Day.

Before signing on for this return to movie, she had never seen Timothee Chalamet in anything or, for that matter, a Safdie movie, but she said it is nice to come back with a film that is getting this kind of reception.

We also discuss the irony of playing a person who is coming back to acting herself, but in a very different kind of way. The actress confessed to having been a bit insecure about whether she still had it, and it is a different world in moviemaking than the one she left (she started her own wildly successful business with Goop), and that includes working with intimacy coordinators for her sex scenes with Chalamet, as well as flipping the usual Hollywood script and playing an older woman involved with a young man.She confessed that she doesn’t remember anything about her Oscar win for ‘Shakespeare in Love’ at only age 26, except maybe that the iconic pink dress she wore is more famous than she is. She also shared how her godfather, Steven Spielberg, gave her an early break, casting her as Wendy in Hook. She also spoke about Miramax years, working with Harvey Weinstein and all the conflicted feelings, but she said she is proud of the movies they made and has no regrets about those films. Kate Winslet reveals what convinced her to direct

(Photo: Xinhua/Zou Zheng/IANS)

Los Angeles, (IANS) Actress Kate Winslet has shared the story behind taking up direction. The actress has said that she never planned to become a director. However, she changed her mind after reading her son's first script.

The acclaimed actress never had any ambitions to direct, but Kate had a change of heart when she read Goodbye June, her son Joe Anders' first script, reports ‘Female First UK’.

Kate, 50, who had Joe with Sir Sam Mendes, her ex-husband, told Sky News, "I'm incredibly impressed by him and really proud of him, not least because he wrote this screenplay and started writing it when he was 19. But he had to adapt and learn very, very quickly that when you're developing something, you take notes, you take feedback”.

She further mentioned, “Netflix became involved at some stage that they were also giving notes to, and then I was sort of playing the role of kind of protecting the project and also protecting him at the same time from things that, you know, may necessarily not have been useful, things that actually were great ideas”.

As per ‘Female First UK’, the new film stars the likes of Dame Helen Mirren, Timothy Spall, Andrea Riseborough and Johnny Flynn.

And Kate found that her acting experience really helped her in her role behind the camera. She said, "We know what works for us as actors from a director. We know what does not work, and we also know what's actively destructive and sometimes that can mean the environment, the working environment. Film sets are very busy places. It can often be frantic, sometimes it's hard to kind of follow what's going on or what you're doing next, and it mattered to me enormously that everybody always felt extremely safe, completely informed, and very free”.

Meanwhile, Kate previously revealed that she finds the continued fascination with Titanic to be "curious". The actress starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in the 1997 romantic-disaster film, and Kate finds it odd that her comments about Titanic remain the "take-home" from some of her interviews.

Asked if she gets annoyed by questions about the record-breaking movie, Kate told 60 Minutes, "No. I tell you what I do sometimes find just curious, I suppose, is whatever I say about Titanic will often be the take-home”.Kate finds that her comments about Titanic continue to overshadow what she has to say about her newer projects. Sophie Turner talks about her fears for child actors

IANS (Photo: Sophie Turner/Instagram)

Los Angeles, (IANS): ‘Game of Thrones’ star Sophie Turner has spoken about her fears for young actors, and feels that the toxicity of social media might affect them negatively.

The 29-year-old actress was just 13 when she was cast in the HBO fantasy series ‘Game of Thrones’, and admits that she is concerned about performers who are thrust into the spotlight at an early age because of the cruel nature of the online sites, reports ‘Female First UK’.

Sophie told ‘Flaunt’ magazine, "I look at the kids who are about to be in the new Harry Potter and I just want to give them a hug and say, 'Look, it's going to be okay but don't go anywhere near (social media). Stay friends with your home friends, keep living at home with your family, make sure your parents are your chaperones, it's so important to have that grounding adjacent to the big, crazy stuff that you do”.

She recalled how her confidence dropped as social media became increasingly prominent after ‘Game of Thrones’ started airing in 2011.

She said, "I think social media was just really becoming a big thing after I started on Game of Thrones, so I got a couple of years of peace and quiet and then I had to adjust. It had such a profound impact on my mental health, like more than I could tell you. It almost destroyed me on numerous occasions”.

As per ‘Female First UK’, Sophie even stated that she will refuse to allow her own children, daughters Willa, and Delphine, from her marriage to former husband Joe Jonas, to act until they have grown up.

She said, "Oh God, they're not acting! Not until they're at least 25”. Sophie Turner appears alongside ‘Game of Thrones’ co-star Kit Harington in her upcoming movie ‘The Dreadful’, and is determined to work on projects that generate discussion.

She said, "I do like to make things that people can walk away from and they feel able to change something about themselves or feel inspired to do something. I want to do more unusual stories, I want to do more A24-type projects where they're super unique and very niche”.Sophie and Kit play lovers in the film, and the former admits that it was a strange dynamic alongside a person she describes as "like a brother in real life". Selena Gomez reveals how ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ changed her life

Los Angeles, (IANS) Actress-singer Selena Gomez has shared how the TV sitcom Wizards of Waverly Place changed her life.

The 33-year-old actress auditioned for a series of TV shows, including the spin-off of Lizzie McGuire, before she joined the cast of Wizards of Waverly Place.

Selena said on the Therapuss with Jake Shane podcast: "It was actually a weird thing because I was on three pilots for the Disney channel. One was the spin-off of Lizzie McGuire. One was the spin-off of the Suite Life of Zach and Cody and the last one was Wizards.

"So by then all of them didn’t get picked up and I was just kind of at my wits end, but not in a bad way just kind of thought ‘okay, well this is not going to work out’ and Wizards got picked up and my whole life changed after that."

Charlize Theron reveals what frustrates about Hollywood

Los Angeles, (IANS) Hollywood actress Charlize Theron has called out a double standard when it comes to action movies.

The Oscar-winning actress, who has been fronting action movies since 2005’s ‘Aeon Flux’, said studios often give female actors just one shot to have an action movie hit, reports ‘Variety’.

She told ‘The New York Times’, “Yeah, it’s harder. That’s known. Action films with female leads don’t get greenlit as much as the ones with male leads. I think the thing that always frustrates me is the fact that guys will get a free ride”.

As per ‘Variety’, she said that when it comes to men, however, they can have a box office flop but still land multiple follow-up projects.

“When women do this and the movie maybe doesn’t hit fully, they don’t necessarily get a chance again”, she continued. “With this, we were very aware that eyes were on us. It’s not a risk that studios want to take, but they’ll take it many times on the same guy who might have a string of action movies that did not do so well”.

Theron is currently headlining Netflix’s action sequel ‘The Old Guard 2’. It’s her latest action role after the likes of ‘Atomic Blonde’ and ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’, among others.

She told The Times her commitment to her action roles has left her body worn out. She said, “I run into people and they’re like, ‘Oh, what happened to your arm?’ And I’m like, ‘Oh, I just had surgery’. And they’re like, ‘The last time I saw you, you had surgery”.“I had an unfortunate injury on the first action attempt I ever did, for a bad movie called ‘Aeon Flux.’ On day nine, I did a back handspring, and I didn’t get enough height, and I landed on my neck on a concrete bridge. I had the last surgery on my neck 18 years ago. I’ve had surgery on both elbows, my right shoulder, my thumb, carpal tunnel, fractures. A lot of fractures”, she added. Johnny Depp opens up about his relationship with his kids

Los Angeles, (IANS) Hollywood star Johnny Depp is reflecting on his fatherhood. The actor has said that he has "empty-nest syndrome".

The 62-year-old actor, who has Lily-Rose, 25, and Jack, 22, with former partner Vanessa Paradis, misses the days his children were still young enough to call him "Papa" and he's amazed at how quickly they have grown up, reports ‘Female First UK’.

He told ‘The Sunday Times’, “Years get away from us, don’t they?... I’m of the empty-nest syndrome”.

When asked if he misses having his kids around, he replied, “Oh man, my kids growing up in the south of France in their youth? I was Papa. I cannot tell you how much I loved being Papa. Then, suddenly, Papa was out the window. I was Dad. But Papa was awesome and I’m getting old enough for Papa to possibly come back. Some m************ going to have to call me Papa”.

As per ‘Female First UK’, the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star is currently living in London, but admitted the only place that has ever really felt like home was France.

He said, “Well, I don’t spend much time in the US. So there is the joint in the Bahamas or here. But home. Truly, the first time I felt I had a home was the place in the south of France where Vanessa and I raised the kiddies. That’s the only place that ever felt like home”.

Although Lily-Rose is a successful actress in her own right, Johnny would never have wanted her to follow in his footsteps.

When asked what advice he has given her, he said, “Sometimes kids say to me, ‘I want to be an actor, what’s your advice?’ And I say, ‘Don’t be!’ I know what’s coming for them. I was chucked on that road and the only advice that I can give is, ‘Don’t allow anyone to make you something you are not’. They’ll want you to be a poster boy and it’s tempting, a lot of money. And if that’s the direction you want? Go for it. But don’t let anybody choose for you”.The actor has never felt comfortable with fame and rarely even goes out with his friends because he doesn't want to bring unwanted attention their way. He said: “Well, to this day I just rarely go out. If friends invite me out for Mexican food, I say, ‘Dude, that’s sweet of you but I will ruin your night’. My presence will bring attention and, Jesus, I have had almost 40 years of fame but I’m still not used to it. And I’m glad I’m not”. Keira Knightley reveals why she was confused by her 2006 Oscar nomination

Online movie streaming services

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Knightley reminisced about receiving an Oscar nomination in 2006 for her performance in Pride & Prejudice. However, at the same time, she was being criticized for her performance in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

"Yes, it was pretty big for my career. If people will come up to me, it’ll be about that one," she said about portraying the Jane Austen-penned heroine.

The actress, whose breakthrough came when she played a tomboy footballer in Bend It Like Beckham in 2002, added: "Pirates of the Caribbean had already come out, but I think in the public consciousness, I was seen as a terrible actress."

Amid critiques of her performance in the second Pirates franchise, Knightley recalled a sudden switch in public opinion on her acting abilities, reports people.com.

"But I had this phenomenally big success with Pirates. And I think this was the first one that was a phenomenally big success, but was also critically acclaimed. So I remember it coming out maybe the same year, maybe around the same time as Pirates 2. And I got the worst reviews ever for that, and then also being nominated for an Oscar at the same time—it was, in my 21-year-old head, quite confusing."

The actress was 20-years-old when she was feted with the Best Actress Academy Award nomination, which made her the third youngest nominee ever at the time, per variety.com.

Pride & Prejudice, directed by Joe Wright, was re-released in theaters in honor of the film's 20th anniversary in April. The actress has been nominated for two Academy Awards, two British Academy Film Awards, four Golden Globes, and a Laurence Olivier Award.
