Michelle Pfeiffer: Moms are unsung heroes of their families

Mumbai, (IANS): Actress Michelle Pfeiffer has heaped praise on her character Claire’s resilience in the upcoming holiday drama ‘Oh. What. Fun’ and said she connected with the role because she represents so many moms who are the unsung heroes of their families.

Pfeiffer found an immediate spark with Claire, a character she views as both relatable and quietly heroic.

“When I read the script, I immediately connected with Claire because she represents so many moms who are the unsung heroes of their families, especially during the holidays. She's this incredibly capable person who makes everything look effortless,” Pfeiffer said.

She added: “But inside, she's yearning to be seen and appreciated. And what I really loved is that this isn't just another holiday movie. It's really a story about self-discovery and finding your voice all wrapped up in this wonderful comedy.”

Director Michael Showalter secured Pfeiffer as the filmmakers’ first choice, drawn to her star power and how naturally she fit the story.

“Michelle is one of the great actresses of all time,” Showalter says.

“She is the central storyline, the anchor of the movie and, really, of her family. Claire has been preparing for this holiday for months and really looks forward to her kids coming home. She also hopes they will act on the hints she has been dropping to submit her for the Holiday Mom contest sponsored by her favorite daytime talk show, ‘The Zazzy Tims Show.’”

Showalter added: “With their busy lives and loving but complicated relationships with each other and their mom, of course, they do nothing. And this sets in motion the central plot of the movie, which is that she goes off on her own and takes matters into her own hands.”

Directed by Michael Showalter, Oh.What.Fun is about what happens when a mom finally decides to put herself first on her own holiday list.It also features a star-studded cast including Felicity Jones, Chloë Grace Moretz, and Denis Leary. Kristen Stewart wants more Hollywood studios to take up female narratives

Los Angeles, (IANS): Hollywood actress Kristen Stewart, who made her directorial debut with “The Chronology of Water”, hopes that her film can trigger a change within the movie business.

The 35-year-old actress wants her biographical drama film to encourage more movie studios to explore female narratives, reports ‘Female First UK’.

The Hollywood star said during a panel at Deadline's Cannes Film Festival studio, "We broke the seal. Hopefully we can start flooding, gushing into view”.

Kristen observed that, for too long, audiences have been presented with "prescribed stories". The actress-turned-director said, "We get prescribed stories just shoved into our faces, down our throats”.

Kristen is often frustrated with how women are portrayed on the big screen. She explained, "The imagery that we consume, the conversations that are not allowed, the fact that we can’t tell people when we’re bleeding, like it’s gross or something".

As per ‘Female First UK’, “The Chronology of Water” is based on the memoir of the same name by Lidia Yuknavitch. And Imogen Poots, who plays the film's central character, has revealed that she jumped at the chance to join the project.

The 35-year-old actress, whose character evolves into a triumphant teacher and a mother, shared, "You just don’t read things like that. Or if you do read scripts like that, they’re not getting made. And so it was just this living, breathing document. It was just such a miracle that we ended up making this film. It’s extraordinary”.

Meanwhile, Kristen recently revealed that she's always wanted to direct. The movie star has actually been thinking about directing since the start of her acting career, but she was waiting for the perfect project to come her way.

Kristen told The Hollywood Reporter, "I think I asked a couple of actors on one of my very early projects [about] the youngest director they could stomach working with. And I was sat down by most of them and asked, 'Why are you even asking us that question?'”.

"I had to wait until right now for this to be actualised, because there are portals that set you free. Texts or songs or conversations that give you ways into figuring out how you want to wield your voice. And even though I always knew that I was waiting for that trigger, I hadn’t found it yet until ('The Chronology of Water'). This was eight years ago”.

Kristen shared that reaching her directorial debut has been a "slow and laborious" process. But the actress, who is best known for playing Bella Swan in the 'Twilight' film franchise, relished the challenge of directing. She said, "I’ve wanted to direct movies as long as I have been an actor and it’s been a multi-tiered development. But for some reason, psychotically, I’ve wanted to do it forever, because I do think the exchange between an actor and a director is a bridge between two very different positions”. Miss England finalist Melisa Raouf creates history, is first woman in pageant's history to compete without makeup

AUG 29, 2022 Beauty pageant and makeup artistry are almost synonymous because of obvious presentation reasons. But one woman has made history by reaching the finals of a national beauty pageant without any makeup. Melisa Raouf, 20, is a politics student from London. By deciding to appear barefaced in Miss England this year, she became the first woman in the contest's 94-year-old history to compete without any makeup. The contest, which is organised by Angie Beasly every year, is promoted to thousands of women around England in local media. While organisers of the contest did introduce a 'Bare Faced' round in the 2019 edition, never in its history has a woman gone without makeup throughout. But Melisa has now changed that. The 20-year-old said she decided to compete barefaced in a bid to promote inner beauty and challenge the beauty ideals that are promoted and perpetuated by media, advertisers and social media. "It means a lot to me as I feel many girls of different ages wear makeup because they feel pressured to do so. If one is happy in their own skin we should not be made to cover up our face with makeup. Our flaws make us who we are and that's what makes every individual unique," the sold The Independent. "I think people should love and embrace their flaws and blemishes, as we know real beauty lies within simplicity. I never felt I met beauty standards. I have recently accepted that I am beautiful in my own skin and that's why I decided to compete with no makeup," she added. Melisa's noteworthy appearance and demeanor have earned praise from people all over the world. It has also received a response from the contest's organiser. "This is the first time I've seen a contestant completely makeup-free competing in a semi-final and she said she felt empowered against all the other contestants," said Beasley. The 20-year-old will compete with other 40 women for the Miss England crown on October 17. Copyright © Jammu Links News Source: Jammu Links News

Priyanka Chopra voted Maxim India’s Hottest Woman of 2013
Bollywood actress and singer Priyanka Chopra has been named the Hottest Woman of 2013 by Maxim India magazine.
The beauty graces the cover of the December issue of the magazine clad in a pristine white deep-neck dress. She flaunts her ‘Daddy’s Lil’ Girl’ tattoo and strikes a rather coy pose with a finger on her full pout. Kohled eyes and an updo make Priyanka Chopra a pretty picture. For a girl who once used to think herself ugly, being named the Hottest woman of the year certainly would be flattering.  Year 2013 may be full of ups and downs for Priyanka Chopra but it ends on a high with this honour. The actress says while professionally, the year was very happening, what with all the acclaim she won for her single ‘Exotic’ with Pitbull, she suffered a huge personal loss with the passing away of her father. “I don’t think I have dealt with the personal loss yet. I haven’t had the time to. It’s so hard to accept that he’s not there anymore,” Priyanka Chopra says about her dad’s death. Source: Article,

Gwen Stefani Talks Music & Motherhood In The January Vogue

Gwen Stefani
Gwen Stefani talks about mixing motherhood and music in the January 2013 issue of Vogue magazine. The singer, shot by legendary photographer Annie Leibovitz, reveals that pregnancy and touring don't mix; and that she had a hard time leaving her sons -- Kingston (6) and Zuma (4) -- to hit the road with her reunited band, No Doubt. While working on her debut solo album, "Love. Angel. Music. Baby.", Stefani was expecting her first son, and when the album was finished she didn't let a little thing like pregnancy stop her from hitting the road to promote it. "I did my first solo record and went on tour while I was pregnant," she says. "I would want to throw up during certain songs. Certain outfits would make me sick.  It was torture. "I toured until I was four and a half months pregnant, showing. I came home and had Kingston, and when he was eight months old, I went back on the road. I nursed him for fourteen months, so I would literally do my hair and makeup, go back to the bus, nurse him, put him down, and walk out onstage. And I did that for 100 shows." Gwen was also wary of joining her reunited bandmates in the studio and leaving her two boys to record their latest album, "Push & Shove." "I think a lot of what I was
going through on the record was wanting to be who I've always been, but now I'm somebody different. I am a mother. And if you don't do it right, there are serious consequences. That's what this whole record was: trying to balance it, trying to be my creative self but also be the new me," she says. "I felt so guilty. I am letting everyone down in the studio right now; I'm letting down my kids; I'm letting down myself. Because time was so precious. So I didn't know what the album's tone would end up being in that kind of state, but it's really upbeat considering." She wouldn't change a thing, though, and is happy to be back with her band after their 10-year hiatus. "We know that we all play a role. But there was a time when it was confusing. It was messy. The breakup, the new relationship, everyone recognizing me. All of that stuff feels like it's so far away now; it's just us as friends, so grateful to be doing what we're doing still." And the future of her solo career may be in doubt now. "I feel like we've always been in our own little lane. Never fitting in. Never a nineties grunge band, never a pop girl band. And it's the same now," she says. "I did the solo thing, but I felt like I was trying to play a character in a way, this Alice in Wonderland pretend version of myself. But this, being in No Doubt, is really who I am." See more of Gwen and read her full interview in the January issue of Vogue and at Vogue.com. © 2012 Starpulse.com, Photo Credits: Annie Leibovitz for Vogue, Source: Starpulse.com
