Travelfwd: Stealing hearts: Comic book fans will surely be taken with Anne Hathaway's portrayal of Catwoman if the new Dark Knight Rises posters are any guide Box office pundits have been stunned at the runaway success of Marvel movie The Avengers. But a series of new posters released to promote the Dark Knight Rises show the 2012 could still well be the year of the Bat. Comic book geeks around the world are sure to smile when they see the dramatic images of Anne Hathaway's portrayal of the saucy thief Catwoman. She wears her sexy but functional costume in both the images, straddling her militaristic motorbike in one image, and standing in the rain in another. Anne, 29, has been waxing lyrical about her outfit, saying: 'I love the costume because everything has a purpose. 'Nothing is in place for fantasy's sake, and that's the case with everything in Christopher Nolan's Gotham City.' Rain is in fact a theme in three of the images, with both Batman and his arch-enemy Bane photographed standing in a downpour. And while some will think it merely means the superhero forgot to put his Bat-brolly in his utility belt, film aficionados will realise it usually is a symbol for serious loss or death. The fact the posters bear the slogan 'the legend ends,' as well as a variation of the Knightsend symbol, which was used at the end of the Knightfall story in which the Batman had his back broken by Bane in the comics, offer a further clue that Bruce Wayne could be about to come a cropper. It is unclear at the moment whether this version of the character, who is being played by Tom Hardy, will use the strength-boosting drug venom like in the comics. But whatever tricks he has up his sleeve, it looks certain Batman is in for his biggest challenge yet.
