'Inocente' Oscar Win Proves Power Of Kickstarter

In the three years since Kickstarter was founded, movies funded by users on the site have won one Academy Award and received six nominations. Inocente became the first "crowd funded" film on Kickstarter to win an Academy Award, winning for best documentary short subject. Two other films that generated funds through the website were nominated in both short documentary and full length: Kings Point and Buzkashi Boys. 294 backers put in over $50,000 into Inocente via the website, with four backers offering $2,500 a piece. Kickstarter allows those seeking funds to reward backers at certain

Adele wins big at Billboard magazine awards


Singer Adele has scooped up three trophies at the Billboard magazine awards. The 24-year-old Skyfall singer was named top artist of 2012 and top female artist — while her hit record '21' took the top album. She is the first entertainer to win both top artist titles two years in a row. It crowns another great year for new mother Adele, who won six Grammy awards and dominated the US charts. Other British Billboard successes included former X Factor stars One Direction, who were named top new artists, and Mumford & Sons, who topped the rock, alternative and folk album and artist categories. Rapper Drake landed the Male Artist trophy and Maroon 5 were named Top Selling Group. R&B star Rihanna took home the Hot 100 Artist title for her chart-topping singles like 'Diamonds' and 'We Found Love', while Gotye's 'Somebody That I Used To Know' was ruled Hot 100 Single of the Year. Source: The Asian Age. Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan was conferred the BrandLaureate Legendary Award for his contribution to the Hindi film industry on a recent visit to Malaysia. 
The BrandLaureate Legendary Award has been earlier given to the likes of former South African president Nelson Mandela, Nobel Laureate Mohammad Yunus, Indian businessman Ratan Tata, late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, Facebook CEO Marck Zuckerburg and F1 ace Michael Schumacher. Shahrukh Khan has received the BrandLaureate Legendary Award for his contribution to the Hindi film industry, and for being India's foremost brand ambassador in Malaysia. SRK was in Malaysia to attend the birthday party of Prime Minister Mahathir bin Mohammad Thursday evening. "It is an honour to be given the BrandLaureate Legendary Award.
