Mumbai, (IANS) Action icon Tom Cruise shared glimpses from the royal premiere of “Digger” in London, where he posed with filmmaker J.J. Abrams,football legend David Beckham and the Prince and Princess of Wales.

Taking to Instagram, Cruise, who also shared a motley of pictures of himself with the cast of the film and fans, described the evening as an “absolute joy and honour” and thanked the Royal Family, the city of London and everyone who attended the premiere.

“Tonight has been an absolute joy and an honor. Thank you to The Royal Family, the city of London, and to all in attendance of our official Royal Premiere of DIGGER! Alejandro, the cast, and I had so much fun,” Cruise wrote as the caption.

In the upcoming film, Cruise stars as Digger Rockwell. The film logline describes Cruise’s character as “the most powerful man in the world” who “embarks on a frantic mission to prove that he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.”

The cast also includes Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, Riz Ahmed and Emma D’Arcy. “Digger” is Cruise’s first film since signing a deal to develop and produce theatrical films with Warner Bros. Discovery in January. His last project with the studio was “Edge of Tomorrow” a decade ago.

“Digger,” which shot in the U.K. for six months, marks Iñárritu’s first English-language film since “The Revenant.” The film will be produced and directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, with a script he co-wrote in 2023 with “Birdman” co-writers Nicolas Giacobone and Alexander Dinelaris, along with Sabina Berman. “Digger” is produced by Cruise and Iñárritu.Regarded as a Hollywood icon, Cruise has been feted with various accolades, including an Honorary Palme d'Or, an Academy Honorary Award, and three Golden Globes, in addition to nominations for four competitive Academy Awards.One of Hollywood's most bankable stars, he is consistently one of the world's highest-paid actors. Maggie Gyllenhaal reacts to female filmmaker’s movie being awarded Golden Lion at Venice Film Fest

Los Angeles, (IANS) Hollywood actress-director Maggie Gyllenhaal, who earlier made a defining statement about the lack of women filmmakers, has now reacted to awarding the Golden Lion to ‘Woman Unknown’ directed by a female filmmaker May el-Toukhy at the Venice film festival.

The actress, who serves as Venice jury president, spoke at the press conference, and rejected the notion that she and her fellow jury members were making any sort of “political statement” by awarding the film.

She said sarcastically, “I actually didn’t see ‘Woman Unknown’. I just was like, ‘It’s made by a woman and so, Golden Lion’”

She went on, “I will say that, of course, I anticipated that question. There are many movies that women made that I don’t like and some that I actively, strongly don’t like, just like films made by men. I have one vote just as each member of this jury does, and so all of the decisions that we make are always complicated, always involve a lot of conversation”.

“I think I’m tired of talking about this same subject over and over. I will continue to do it, but just for a minute, here in this incredible place, I just want to celebrate a beautifully made movie that I felt was like a laser beam just for the well-made movie that it is”, she added.

Gyllenhaal’s jury also consisted of ‘The Voice of Hind Rajab’ director Kaouther Ben Hania, Hong Kong filmmaking giant Johnnie To, Afghan filmmaker Shahrbanoo Sadat, French director and screenwriter Xavier Giannoli, ‘The Brutalist’ composer Daniel Blumberg and U.S.-based Italian film academic Francesco Casetti.

The only other movie in competition involving a woman director was the Israeli narrative film on Palestine, ‘NAZA’ which was co-helmed by Rachel Szor and Yuval Abraham.

Shreya Ghoshal opens up on her longest tour across North America

Mumbai, (IANS) Playback singer Shreya Ghoshal has spoken up about her “longest tour across North America” as she is set to perform to a live audience in the middle of the festive season.

Following successful legs across Europe, Australia and Asia, the singer is set to embark on her spectacular ‘The Unstoppable Tour 2026’ across North America this September. The tour spans an extensive lineup of cities across the United States and Canada in a single month covering 12 cities.

Talking about the same, Shreya Ghoshal told IANS, “This tour holds a very special place in my heart and marks a landmark chapter in the whole ‘Unstoppable’ journey. In a career spanning over two decades, this will be my longest tour across North America in a single month, and I’m genuinely excited to be coming back. I’m also very happy to be working with Manish, Deepa Sood and the entire Intense Entertainment team once again. When you’re performing across so many cities in such a short span, having a team that understands you and makes the journey feel effortless means a lot. My last visit gave me some beautiful memories, and I had promised myself and my audiences that I would come back. I’m so happy that I’m finally keeping that promise”.

She further mentioned, “There’s something very special about performing here, especially as we head into the festive season, and I’m looking forward to creating that mood and celebrating it with my audiences. Every night on stage reminds me of why I love what I do. Music has this incredible ability to bring people together, no matter where they come from or how far apart they are”.

The tour will kick off in Boston on September 4, followed by Newark on September 5, Virginia on September 6, Columbus on September 9, Chicago on September 11, Toronto on September 13, Houston on September 18, Dallas on September 19, Austin on September 20, Seattle on September 24, the Bay Area on September 26, and conclude in Los Angeles on September 27, 2026.
