Priyanka Chopra wishes ‘eternal queen’ Angelina Jolie on 50th birthday

Mumbai, (IANS) As Angelina Jolie turned 50, Indian actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas wished the Oscar winning-actress, whom the 'desi girl' lovingly called the “eternal queen.”

Priyanka took to Instagram stories, where she shared a photograph of Jolie, who turned 50 on Wednesday and wrote: “Happiest birthday to this eternal queen @angelinajolie.”

Talking about Jolie, she has appeared in over thirty film productions since 1982. The actress has starred in films such as Playing by Heart, Gone in 60 Seconds, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Alexander, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Beowulf, A Mighty Heart, Changeling, Kung Fu Panda, Wanted, Salt, The Tourist and Maleficent.

Known for her humanitarian work, the actress who has directed a number of films, such as In the Land of Blood and Honey, Unbroken, By the Sea, First They Killed My Father, and Without Blood, has been feted with several honours including an Academy Award, three Golden Globe Awards, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and a Tony Award as well as nominations for two British Academy Film Awards and two Primetime Emmy Awards.

Talking about Priyanka, she is all set to star in “Heads Of State,” her upcoming project directed by Ilya Naishuller. In this action-packed film, Priyanka plays Noel Bisset, an MI6 agent who joins forces with John Cena and Idris Elba’s characters to navigate a high-stakes situation after their diplomatic mission is disrupted.

The film is scheduled to debut on Prime Video on July 2.

She will also portray a 19th-century Caribbean pirate in “The Bluff”, which is a swashbuckler drama film co-written by Frank E. Flowers and Joe Ballarini, with Flowers also directing. The film stars Karl Urban, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Safia Oakley-Green, and Vedanten Naidoo.

Set in the Caribbean islands during the 19th century, the film features Priyanka as a former female pirate who must protect her family when her past catches up to her.Additionally, Priyanka is set to return for the second season of the web series “Citadel.” The spy action series was released in 2023. Angelina Jolie reacts to standing ovation for ‘Maria’

Los Angeles, (IANS) Hollywood superstar Angelina Jolie recently received a standing ovation for her movie ‘Maria’ at the Venice Film Festival, and has now reacted to the applause and the response that she got for her part.

Reacting to the response, the actress told ‘Entertainment Tonight’, “It’s hard to explain moments like that. When you play a real person, it’s a big responsibility, and you don’t want to fail her, and you don’t wanna fail the people that care for her, and the people you are standing with. We all have worked very hard on something. And, kindness is always moving, when people are kind to you, you feel moved”.

Talking about attending the Venice Film Festival with her son, Pax Thien Jolie-Pitt, the actress said, “I’m very happy, he is healthy. We worked on the film together, and we do a lot of work together, so it was a family night”.

‘Maria’ is a biographical psychological drama film based on the opera singer Maria Callas. It is directed by Pablo Larraín, written by Steven Knight, produced by Fremantle. The film stars Angelina Jolie in the titular role, with Valeria Golino as her sister Yakinthi, and Haluk Bilginer as Aristotle Onassis.

It marks the third and final film in Larrain’s trilogy of 20th century “iconic women”, after ‘Jackie’ and ‘Spencer’. The film premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, where it competed for the Golden Lion.

Angelina Jolie gets elegant design of tiny bird as a tattoo

Los Angeles, (IANS) Hollywood star Angelina Jolie recently flaunted her new tattoo.

The actress and producer of 'The Outsiders' walked the red carpet at the 2024 Tony Awards, held at Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater in New York City.

Jolie wore a custom light-teal Atelier Versace velvet draped gown featuring a sweetheart neckline, which showed off what appears to be a new tiny bird tattoo, reports 'People' magazine.

The sparrow-like bird is depicted in flight.

Jolie’s tattoo wasn’t visible in April when she and her daughter Vivienne attended the musical's opening night.

Jolie also wore a matching velvet shrug and coordinated with 15-year-old Vivienne, who is credited on 'The Outsiders' playbill as a producer assistant.

According to 'People', for Broadway's biggest night, the teenager wore a crisp white shirt under a teal vest, along with teal trousers and a bow tie. She completed her look with Converse sneakers.

Jolie was nominated for co-producing the musical adaptation of S.E. Hinton's 1967 book 'The Outsiders', which is up for 12 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Danya Taymor took home the Tony for Best Direction of a Musical.

During the evening, Jolie introduced a performance from the show's company, which included renditions of the songs 'Tulsa '67' and 'Grease Got a Hold'. The performance ended with the entire cast performing the rumble, an elaborate dance fight that takes place as the rain falls.

"S.E. Hinton wrote 'The Outsiders' in high school, and half a century later, it still speaks to us. Society changes, but the experience of being an outsider is universal," said Jolie."To any young person, any person, feeling on the outside, you are not wrong to see what is unfair. Angelina Jolie To Direct World War II Hero's Story

Angelina Jolie will make her second feature film as a director on a biopic of Olympian-turned-World War II prisoner of war Louis Zamperini. The Oscar winner moved behind the camera to work on hard-hitting 2011 movie In the Land of Blood and Honey, about a romance between a Serbian soldier and a Bosnian woman during the 1990s war in the troubled region. The movie received critical acclaim, and now Jolie is set to work on another emotive subject for her second time as a filmmaker. Unbroken is based on Laura Hillenbrand's book about 95-year-old Zamperini, an American long distance runner who appeared at the  1936 Olympics in Berlin, Germany and caught the attention of Adolf Hitler. Actress Angelina Jolie has reportedly bought her fiance Brad Pitt a helicopter worth one million pound. The 36-year-old apparently splashed out the money on the aircraft and flying lessons for Pitt, reported Sun Online. "They've had a helicopter pad installed in the grounds of their south of France home, Chateau Miraval. So Ange thought it would be nice to buy Brad a helicopter as a surprise present," a source said. Starpuls: After Killing Them Softly received a 10 minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival, it appears Oscar buzz is growing early for a man that has yet to hoist an Academy Award: Brad Pitt. Killing Them Softly, which also stars Ray Liotta, James Gandolfini and Richard Jenkins, follows a mob enforcer (Pitt) sent to clean-up a mob-protected poker game after a robbery. The film has received some flak for being set in 2008 and centering on the recent economic downturn, with some wondering if the story was taking shots at President Obama. "Only part of that is true. The movie sets Obama's 2008 Democratic National Convention speech against a landscape of greed and violence but this wasn't an attempt to criticize Obama, but rather the footage was used as a real expression of hope," Pitt said. The film is the second time Pitt has worked with Andrew Dominik, the first being The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. Brad Pitt was nominated for his roles in Moneyball and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, but lost both times. Angelina Jolie highlights humanitarian crises

Film star Angelina Jolie will use her powerful box office fame to draw wider attention to some of the world's worst humanitarian disasters, the U.N. refugee agency said last week. Jolie, who has already served more than 10 years as goodwill ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), is taking on a new role as special envoy for large-scale crises that cause huge numbers of civilians to flee their homelands. She is expected to deal with complex emergencies and protracted crises including Afghanistan and Somalia that have driven millions of refugees into neighboring countries where they remain for years due to the lack of political solution. "UNHCR is pleased to announce today that Angelina Jolie will take on a new and expanded role for the U.N. refugee agency as Special Envoy of High Commissioner Antonio Guterres," UNHCR spokesman Adrian Edwards told a news briefing in Geneva. The Oscar-winning Jolie was due to be named Special Representative on the Afghan refugee crisis last October, but there was no final agreement. "In her new role, she is expected to focus on large-scale crises resulting in the mass displacement of people, to undertake advocacy and represent UNHCR and Mr. Guterres at the diplomatic level," Edwards said. This can include "conveying messages to governments" and emphasising the need to adhere to human rights law, he added. The Tomb Raider star has already made 40 field visits to remote hotspots in more than 20 countries, including Afghanistan, Bosnia, Haiti, Iraq and Sudan. She has donated at least $5 million which has helped build schools in Kenya and Afghanistan, the UNHCR said. "Quite honestly, I don't think you need a rocket scientist to see the benefits that she is bringing in terms of the attention that she's getting for the plight of the world's displaced," he said.
