(Photo : IANS/Xinhua/Li Xin)

Los Angeles, (IANS) The festival attendees at Locarno Film Festival were in for a surprise as actor-producer Jackie Chan reenacted his role in Bruce Lee’s ‘Enter the Dragon’ at the film festival.

Jackie Chan played a small part in the iconic film. In the past, he admitted Lee accidentally hit him with a stick during a scene – but that didn’t stop him from completing the take, reports ‘Variety’.

He said, “I’m no Superman. I am scared. Before a stunt, I go, ‘Am I going to die this time?’”. During a masterclass at the Swiss fest, he talked about his beginnings.

“That’s a long, long story. I was lazy, naughty, I didn’t want to study – that’s why my father sent me to martial arts school. I liked fighting when I was young. Later, he asked, ‘Did you like the school?’ Yes, very much. I could kick the teacher, punch someone – whatever I wanted to do”, he joked. Jackie Chan started out as a stuntman, appearing in Lee’s ‘Fist of Fury’, before eventually transitioning into acting following some childhood experiences on set.

“I went, ‘Movies are great – I can have my own lunch box’”. The star delighted the audience with his animated presence, at times seeking their help to find the right words or titles. He also opened up about his absent father, who used to send him tapes with the recordings of his voice. “If I listened to them now, I think I’d cry”.

As per ‘Variety’, he wanted to learn filmmaking from scratch. “I’d even put on my own makeup – I wanted to show the director I’m good enough”, he shared, After a while, he decided to take over directing duties as well.“I do everything, myself. Now, I tell filmmakers, ‘If you only learn how to direct, that’s not good enough’”, he added. Jackie Chan reenacts ‘Enter the Dragon’ at Locarno Film Festival | MorungExpress | morungexpress.com

Guns N' Roses: The Enduring Legacy of a Legendary Rock Band!

Guns N' Roses, often abbreviated as GNR, is an American hard rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1985. Emerging during a musical landscape often characterized by synthesizers and pop sensibilities, GNR's raw, blues-infused hard rock and rebellious attitude struck a chord with audiences worldwide. The band's name itself was a combination of the monikers of two predecessor bands: Hollywood Rose (Axl Rose, Izzy Stradlin) and L.A. Guns (Tracii Guns, Ole Beich, Rob Gardner).

The "Classic" Lineup and Rise to Fame:

The lineup that would achieve global superstardom solidified in 1985 and featured:Axl Rose: Lead vocals, piano

Slash (Saul Hudson): Lead guitar

Izzy Stradlin: Rhythm guitar
Duff McKagan: Bass

Steven Adler: Drums

Their debut album, "Appetite for Destruction" (1987), was a monumental success, becoming one of the best-selling albums of all time. It spawned iconic hits like "Sweet Child o' Mine," "Welcome to the Jungle," and "Paradise City," which are still rock anthems today. The band's raw energy, Axl Rose's distinctive vocals, and Slash's signature guitar riffs defined a generation of rock music.

Turbulence and the "Use Your Illusion" Era:

Despite their massive success, the band was plagued by internal conflicts and substance abuse issues. Drummer Steven Adler was replaced by Matt Sorum in 1990. In 1991, they released the ambitious double albums "Use Your Illusion I" and "Use Your Illusion II," showcasing a broader musical range and featuring epics like "November Rain" and "Estranged." However, founding member Izzy Stradlin departed during this era, replaced by Gilby Clarke.

Lineup Changes and Hiatus:

Following the "Use Your Illusion" tour, the band's lineup continued to evolve, with key members like Slash and Duff McKagan eventually leaving in the mid-1990s. Axl Rose remained the constant member, and he continued to tour and eventually released the long-delayed album "Chinese Democracy" in 2008 with a completely new lineup.

The Reunion and Current Status:

In 2016, much to the delight of fans worldwide, a partial reunion of the classic lineup occurred with Axl Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan rejoining forces. Keyboardist Dizzy Reed, who had been with the band since 1990, also remained. Guitarist Richard Fortus and keyboardist Melissa Reese later joined the touring lineup. As of May 2025, the drummer for the band is Isaac Carpenter.

Guns N' Roses has been actively touring since their reunion, captivating audiences with their legendary hits and electrifying stage presence.

Chinese Democracy (2008)
Hard Skool (2022) (EP)

They have also released numerous live albums and compilations.

Awards and Recognition:

Guns N' Roses has received numerous accolades throughout their career, including:American Music Awards
MTV Video Music Awards (including the Video Vanguard Award)

World Music Awards
Induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012 (for Axl Rose, Slash, Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagan, Steven Adler, Matt Sorum, and Dizzy Reed).

Guns N' Roses in Mumbai, May 2025:

This marks their first performance in India since 2012 and is part of their ongoing Asia tour. The concert promises to be a spectacular event, featuring their iconic hits and the energy that has defined them as one of the greatest rock bands of all time.

Conclusion: Guns N' Roses' journey has been a rollercoaster of incredible highs and turbulent lows, but their impact on music history is undeniable. "Right now we're all a bit nervous."

One of 21 films in the main competition for the Golden Lion prize, "Babygirl" is the third film for Dutch director Halina Reijn, who also wrote the script.

Early reviews were mostly positive, with Variety calling Kidman "fearless" in the film that captures "something genuine about women's erotic experience in the age of control" and IndieWire calling the film a "sexy, darkly funny, and bold piece of work".

The film manages to subvert the seemingly dated erotic genre, whose heyday in the 1980s and 90s produced films such as "Fatal Attraction", "Basic Instinct" and "9 1/2 Weeks".

"I'm very delighted to be able to make a film about female desire but it's also a film about a woman in an existential crisis and it has many layers," said Reijn.

That was the interest for Kidman, who in 1999 delved into the genre with her then-husband Tom Cruise in Stanley Kubrick's final film, "Eyes Wide Shut," similarly an in-depth look at sexuality and the human psyche.

"I want to examine human beings," Kidman said Friday."I want to examine women onscreen, I want to examine what it means to be human and in all facets of that and the labyrinth of that," she said. Erotic thriller at Venice sees Nicole Kidman 'exposed'

Mumbai, (IANS) Veteran actress Rekha left everyone mesmerised as she took to the stage at IIFA awards recently and performed on multiple songs including 'Piya Tose Naina Lage Re' from ‘Guide’ and 'Lag Jaa Gale'. The performance was a testament to her eternal beauty and her craft of dancing that has stood the test of time.

Rekha’s work in cinema has always been a blend of good acting chops, grace and her excellence in dance. The senior actress finds her name in the league of rare actresses of cinema who juggle great dance with solid acting performances. But, who are the other members of this league?

Let’s take a look at the actresses who were not just amazing with their acting but also their dance.

1. Sridevi: Her performance in ‘Sadma’ will leave you numb, her performance in ‘Chaalbaaz’ will leave you rolling on the floor laughing, and her dance in ‘Mere Haathon Mein’ and in the instrumental dance tack of 'Chandni' will induce a strong current and the urge to dance with your heart. Such was the range of Sridevi. The actress effortlessly swung between her acting abilities and her skill in dance.

2. Jayalalithaa: The late politician and actress Jayalalithaa was considered the ‘Queen of Tamil’ cinema prior to her long stint in the corridors of politics. While she had a short acting career owing to her political aspirations, she managed to leave a lasting impact with her craft of dancing, and her grace on screen.

3. Hema Malini: After ruling the roost with her acting sting, the actress still performs Bharatanatyam in cultural events. The actress studied Kuchipudi with Vempati Chinna Satyam and Mohiniattam with Kalamandalam Guru Gopalakrishnan. She has played a number of dance roles including Narasimha and Rama in Tulasidas's ‘Ramcharitmanas’. She also performed in Mysuru on the eve of Dussehra in 2007, where she played the roles of Sati, Parvati and Durga.

4. Waheeda Rehman: The younger generation would have seen her gut-wrenching portrayal of a distraught mother in the song ‘Luka Chuppi’ from ‘Rang De Basanti’ but the veteran actress has a million arrows in her quiver when it comes to emoting for the screen, and when you rub the concoction of her dance performances on these arrows, they become a lethal weapon for the celluloid. Her performances in songs like ‘Piya Tose Naina’ and ‘Mose Chhal Kiye Jaaye’ are for the ages.5. Madhuri Dixit: The greatest of all times in this league. Madhuri not just delivered a string of terrific performances across genres (who could forget her performance in ‘Anjaam’?) but also excelled at the artform of dance. If songs like ‘Ek Do Teen’ and ‘Channe Ke Khet Mein’ have gone on to become iconic songs, it’s because of Madhuri’s dancing prowess.Rekha's IIFA performance revives memories of 5 iconic actresses who effortlessly juggled acting and dance | MorungExpress | morungexpress.com

Taylor Swift talks about being filled with fear, sense of guilt after Vienna tour cancellation

Los Angeles, (IANS) : Singer Taylor Swift in a lengthy post on social media has spoken about the first time how the cancellation of her Vienna tour dates over an attack threat "filled me with a new sense of fear" and said she felt "a tremendous amount of guilt because so many people had planned on coming to those shows".

It was earlier in August, when her concerts were cancelled in the Austrian capital, and three people were arrested in connection with reportedly planning attacks inspired by the Islamic State group, reports bb.com.

Taking to Instagram, Swift, who has wrapped up the European leg of her Eras Tour on Tuesday at Wembley Stadium in London, wrote: “We have officially wrapped the European leg of The Eras Tour. With it came the most passionate crowds I’ve ever played for, new traditions in the show, and an entirely new era added in.”

“It was a more hectic pace than we’d done before, and I’m so proud of my crew/fellow performers for being able to physically perform that show and build our massive stage, take it apart, and make magic with so few days in between for recovery and travel. They’re the most impressive people I know and I’m so lucky they gave The Eras Tour their time, their energy, and their expertise.”

She said that walking onstage in London was a rollercoaster of emotions and that having the “Vienna shows cancelled was devastating”.

“The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear, and a tremendous amount of guilt because so many people had planned on coming to those shows. But I was also so grateful to the authorities because thanks to them, we were grieving concerts and not lives,” she said.

The 34-year-old hitmaker said she was heartened by the love and unity she saw in the fans who banded together.

“I decided that all of my energy had to go toward helping to protect the nearly half a million people I had coming to see the shows in London. My team and I worked hand in hand with stadium staff and British authorities every day in pursuit of that goal, and I want to thank them for everything they did for us. Let me be very clear: I am not going to speak about something publicly if I think doing so might provoke those who would want to harm the fans who come to my shows.”

“In cases like this one, ‘silence’ is actually showing restraint, and waiting to express yourself at a time when it’s right to. My priority was finishing our European tour safely, and it is with great relief that I can say we did that,” said the “Lovestory” singer.

She said that then London felt like a beautiful dream sequence.

“All five crowds at Wembley Stadium were bursting with passion, joy, and exuberance. The energy in that stadium was like the most giant bear hug from 92,000 people each night, and it brought me back to a place of carefree calm up there,” she concluded the post.

She heaped praise on the epic surprise performances from her long time friends Ed Sheeran, Florence + The Machine, and Jack Antonoff.

“Performing ‘Florida!!!’ with Flo for the first time was unforgettable and Ed took me right back to our old Red Tour memories. It was the most dizzying honour to become the first solo artist to play Wembley 8 times in one tour.”“To the fans who have seen us this summer, you’ll always have the most sparkling place in my memories. You were a dream to perform for, dance with, and share those magical moments with. We’ll see you all again when we resume The Eras Tour in October, but for now we get to take a much needed rest. Thank you for the adventure of a lifetime. May it continue…” Taylor Swift talks about being filled with fear, sense of guilt after Vienna tour cancellation | MorungExpress | morungexpress.com
