Gwyneth Paltrow opens up on her to movies with ‘Marty Supreme'

os Angeles, (IANS) Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow has made her return to the big screen after a seven-year hiatus. She has been doing the kind of independent moviemaking she says has always been her favorite.

Her return in She features in a supporting performance in ‘Marty Supreme’, reports ‘Deadline’.

As Kay Stone, a former actress now living another life as the wife of a business mogul (played by none other than Shark Tank’s Kevin O’Leary in his acting debut), she proves she hasn’t lost a beat in terms of creating fascinating, three-dimensional characters.

As per ‘Deadline’, Marty Supreme broke records when it opened in a limited six-theater platform run last weekend, and the critically praised movie that stars Timothee Chalamet is releasing on Christmas Day.

Before signing on for this return to movie, she had never seen Timothee Chalamet in anything or, for that matter, a Safdie movie, but she said it is nice to come back with a film that is getting this kind of reception.

We also discuss the irony of playing a person who is coming back to acting herself, but in a very different kind of way. The actress confessed to having been a bit insecure about whether she still had it, and it is a different world in moviemaking than the one she left (she started her own wildly successful business with Goop), and that includes working with intimacy coordinators for her sex scenes with Chalamet, as well as flipping the usual Hollywood script and playing an older woman involved with a young man.She confessed that she doesn’t remember anything about her Oscar win for ‘Shakespeare in Love’ at only age 26, except maybe that the iconic pink dress she wore is more famous than she is. She also shared how her godfather, Steven Spielberg, gave her an early break, casting her as Wendy in Hook. She also spoke about Miramax years, working with Harvey Weinstein and all the conflicted feelings, but she said she is proud of the movies they made and has no regrets about those films. Jennifer Aniston recalls fighting with studio over ‘Horrible Bosses’ ‘wig’

(photo : IANS/jenniferaniston/insta)

Los Angeles,  (IANS) Hollywood star Jennifer Aniston recalled how she battled a studio over a brunette hued wig for the 2011 comedy “Horrible Bosses.”

Aniston told Vanity Fair during a career retrospective video interview that she fought Warner Bros. to wear a brunette wig in the 2011 comedy “Horrible Bosses.” The studio wanted Aniston on-screen with her iconic blonde tresses.

“I fought for that wig. That was not an easy battle,” Aniston said.

The actress said: “I wanted (my character) to look different. The argument from the studio, and I am sorry to call you out, was that ‘we are afraid it won’t look like you.’ That’s kind of the point! I still think it might look a little bit like me. But I’m glad I fought for it and stuck to my guns.”

Aniston starred in “Horrible Bosses” as Dr. Julia Harris, a sexually aggressive dentist who is harassing her assistant (Charlie Day), reports variety.com.

The raunchy R-rated comedy, along with 2013’s “We’re the Millers,” was seen as a big change in pace for Aniston as it actively pivoted away from her persona as a “girl next door.”

“I was always seen as a girl next door or the ingenuine,” Aniston said.

“It was so fun to play something like this because it’s so far away from anything that I am. That’s what the director liked. It’s so much not what you would expect from (me). That was the fun of it. That’s what made it more creatively exciting for me obviously.”

“Horrible Bosses,” also starring Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, Colin Farrell, Kevin Spacey and Jamie Foxx, was a box office hit with just over $200 million worldwide. The 56-year-old actress and the majority of the original cast returned for the 2014 sequel, “Horrible Bosses 2.” Jennifer Aniston recalls fighting with studio over ‘Horrible Bosses’ ‘wig’ | MorungExpress | morungexpress.com

Los Angeles, (IANS) The biopic based on the life of the King of Pop Michael Jackson titled “Michael” will now release worldwide on April 24, 2026.

The film was earlier scheduled to release in October 2025.

Antoine Fuqua directs, with John Logan as screenwriter and Jaafar Jackson starring as his late uncle. Graham King, an Oscar winner for “The Departed,” produces, reports variety.com.

Lionsgate is releasing the film domestically, with Universal handling distribution in the rest of the world except for Japan, which is handled by Kino Films.

Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said in May that the movie was “likely” to move to 2026.

Although it wrapped production in May 2024, the project underwent reshoots and came in with a lengthy initial cut. Earlier, there had been discussion about releasing the film in two parts.

“Michael” also stars Colman Domingo and Nia Long as family heads Joe and Katherine Jackson. Miles Teller plays John Branca, Jackson’s attorney and advisor.

Larenz Tate plays Motown Records founder Berry Gordy, with Laura Harrier as music executive Suzanne de Passe and Kat Graham will appear as Diana Ross.

His personal physician, Conrad Murray, said that he found Jackson in his bedroom at his North Carolwood Drive home in the Holmby Hills area of the city not breathing and with a weak pulse; he administered CPR to no avail, and security called 9-1-1. Paramedics treated Jackson at the scene, but he was pronounced dead at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Westwood.

Later, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner concluded that Jackson's death was a homicide. Jackson had been administered propofol and anti-anxiety benzodiazepines lorazepam and midazolam by his doctor.Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in November 2011, and was released in 2013 after serving two years of his four-year prison sentence with time off for good behavior.Michael Jackson biopic now scheduled to release in April 2026 | MorungExpress | morungexpress.com

Ana de Armas in talks to star in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Los Angeles, (IANS) The Cuban-American actress Ana de Armas is currently in talks for a secret part in the upcoming superhero movie ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.

The upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) blockbuster will bookend the multiverse saga when it hits theatres in 2026, and it's now rumoured the actress, who previously starred in James Bond film 'No Time To Die', is in negotiations for the movie, reports ‘Female First UK’.

While Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman suggested de Armas may join ‘Doomsday’, he did not confirm which role she was supposedly in negotiations for. This comes after ‘TheWrap’ reported Chris Evans, who played Captain America from ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ in 2011 to ‘Avengers: Endgame’ eight years later, was also in contention to appear in ‘Doomsday’.

However, the outlet did not confirm which character Evans would be portraying after the 43-year-old actor appeared as Johnny Storm, the Human Torch, in ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’.

As per ‘Female First UK’, apart from Ana de Armas and Evans, it has been officially confirmed that Hayley Atwell and Anthony Mackie would be reprising their respective roles of Agent Peggy Carter and Sam Wilson, while Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach are also slated to appear in the movie.

‘Avengers Doomsday’ will also see the return of ‘Iron Man’ star Robert Downey Jr., who portrayed the character from the 2008 eponymous flick until 2019’s ‘Avengers: Endgame’, as the villainous Doctor Doom.

The 59-year-old actor, who was revealed to be playing the antagonist at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, detailed how Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige first pitched the role to him and his wife Susan Downey.

Speaking on ‘The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter’ podcast, Robert said, “Susan and I were sitting down with Feige at one point, and he said, 'It just keeps occurring to me that, if you were to come back’. And Susan was like, ‘Wait, wait, come back as what?’ And then we both realized, over time, that it was another thing that just disproves any doubt anyone could ever have about that guy”.

He further mentioned, “(Kevin Feige is) a very sophisticated, creative thinker about, ‘How can we not go backwards? How can we not disappoint expectations? How can we continue to beat expectations?’ And he brought up Victor von Doom, and I looked into (the0 character, and I was like, ‘Wow.’ And later on, he goes, ‘Let's get Victor von Doom right. Let's get that right’”.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and its sequel ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ will be helmed by the directing duo Joe and Anthony Russo, who had made both ‘Endgame’ and ‘Infinity War’, as well as ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ and its follow-up ‘Civil War’.Ana de Armas in talks to star in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ | MorungExpress | morungexpress.com

Jim Carrey complains about ‘Sonic 3’: Twice the work for same pay

Mumbai, (IANS) Hollywood actor Jim Carrey has opened up about his role in the upcoming movie “Sonic the Hedgehog 3”, where he reprised his role as the villainous Dr. Robotnik. Speaking about the challenge of portraying both versions of Robotnik, Carrey says jokingly, “Until I realized I was doing twice the work for the same pay. Next time they’re going to have to throw in a Chaos Emerald or two. But I had asked the universe for a kickass franchise that would endear itself to children everywhere and appeal to the child inside all of us. And blammo, here I am, right through the Sega wormhole.” “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” is inspired by the popular video game series from Sega. Serving as a sequel to “Sonic the Hedgehog” and “Sonic the Hedgehog 2”, the film is directed by Jeff Fowler with a screenplay by Pat Casey, Josh Miller, and John Whittington and a story crafted by Casey and Miller. Carrey had earlier expressed that the film doesn’t mark his return because he never left the Sonic universe. Reflecting on his return, the actor shared, “I never left the Sonic universe! Where else would I go? The Sonic universe is all-encompassing. Only a fool would try to quantify it. I think it was Carl Sagan who said, ‘For creatures as small as we, vastness is bearable only through the collection of 50 rings or finding a chaos emerald.’ I’m paraphrasing, of course. Carl Sagan said something completely different, but I’m sure he was a very big Sonic fan, so I don’t think he’d mind.” Last month, the makers released the second trailer of the film, and it introduced fans to Shadow the Hedgehog, a formidable new antagonist whose arrival raises the stakes for Sonic and his loyal friends. The forthcoming movie is led by Jim Carrey, Ben Schwartz, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Idris Elba, and Keanu Reeves. The film also features Krysten Ritter, Lee Majdoub, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, Shemar Moore, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, Alyla Browne, and James Wolk. “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” is slated to hit theatres on January 3, 2025. 'Inside Out 2' posts smashing debut at N.American box office

LOS ANGELES - The coming-of-age movie "Inside Out 2" debuted atop the North American box office, raking in a whopping $155-million with its animated tale of teen angst, industry watcher Exhibitor Relations reported.

"This is a sensational opening by Pixar's own exceptional standard for a follow-up sequel," said analyst David A. Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research.

In the hotly awaited sequel from Disney and Pixar, a girl named Riley grapples with new feelings as she starts high school.

Emotions such as Envy and Anxiety join the existing, talkative residents of her young head, including Joy and Sadness, all of them voiced by actors including Amy Poehler and Phyllis Smith.

"Every one of Pixar's second episodes has opened better than the first -- all of them -- and that's happening again here," said Gross.

The movie snatched first place away from the Will Smith action comedy "Bad Boys: Ride or Die," which debuted at the top of the charts last week. This time in second place, it took in another $33-million for a total of $112-million in two weeks.

Sony's fourth instalment of the series is a major step in Smith's career rehabilitation after he slapped Chris Rock at the Academy Awards in 2022 -- a sign that audiences are ready to welcome him back.

Jumping up two spots from last week to third place was 20th Century's action sci-fi "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" with $5.2-million in revenue in the Friday to Sunday period.

Fourth place went to Sony's family-friendly "The Garfield Movie," starring Chris Pratt as the lazy, lasagna-loving feline, which took in $5-million in ticket sales.
The Warner Bros horror film "The Watchers" slipped one spot to fifth place as it earned $3.7 million in sales. 'Inside Out 2' posts smashing debut at N.American box office

As per reports, Tom is working alongside Paramount to produce a new ‘Top Gun’ movie, despite having just signed a deal with Warner Brothers.

Zendaya helps 'Challengers' net top spot in N.America box office

MGM's tennis-based romance "Challengers" opened this weekend atop the North American box office, taking in an estimated $15 million behind positive reviews and the powerful net game of actor/singer Zendaya, industry watcher Exhibitor Relations reported Sunday.

"This is a strong opening for a romance and sports drama," said analyst David A. Gross, crediting Zendaya's star power and the directorial talents of Luca Guadagnino (he of "Call Me By Your Name").

"This is the right material with the right director, featuring the right star at the right time," Gross said.

Zendaya plays a tennis prodigy who retires after an injury, then later helps her husband (Mike Faist) prepare for a key match against a player (Josh O'Connor) who, awkwardly enough, is both her former lover and his onetime best friend.

By the way, yes, Zendaya can play tennis. She trained for three months with tennis pro Brad Gilbert, and Guadagnino told Variety that she was so good he rarely had to use film of her double.

In second spot for the Friday-through-Sunday period was another new release, Lionsgate and Kingdom Story Company's faith-based drama "Unsung Hero," at $7.8 million.

The partly fact-based film follows a man who moves his music-loving family from Australia to the United States after his concert promotion business collapses. Friendly fellow churchgoers and the power of prayer (spoiler alert) just might help him and his seven kids turn things around.

In third, for the second straight weekend, was Warner Bros.' "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire," at $7.2 million. The humongous gorilla and giant reptile, not natural buddies, team up this time to save their species -- and ours.

Meantime, A24's "Civil War," a disturbing saga about a dystopian America in the near future, dropped three places from last weekend's top spot, earning $7 million.

Kirsten Dunst plays a veteran photojournalist who finds herself increasingly tormented as she travels through a blood-soaked country in hopes of interviewing a besieged third-term president.

And in fifth, down two spots, was Universal's horror film "Abigail" at $5.3 million. Alisha Weir plays 12-year-old Abigail, whose kidnappers learn too late that she is a killer vampire.

Rounding out the top 10 were:

"The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" ($3.9 million)

"Kung Fu Panda 4" ($3.6 million)

"Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" ($3.3 million)

"Dune: Part Two" ($1.9 million)"Boy Kills World" ($1.7 million) Zendaya helps 'Challengers' net top spot in N.America box office
