(Photo : IANS/kritisanon/insta)

Mumbai, (IANS) Kriti Sanon has opened up about her role in “Tere Ishq Mein,” calling her character Mukti the most layered and tricky she has ever played.

Taking to her Instagram handle, the ‘Heropanti’ actress shared a video highlighting the rave reviews for her performance in the film and expressed her gratitude, saying, “My heart is full.” In the caption, Kriti expressed heartfelt gratitude for the audience’s response to her performance. She described her role as Mukti as her most layered character to date, emphasizing the complexity and nuance involved. Sanon wrote, “My Heart is Full..The best feeling for an actor is when the audience connects with every little emotion in between the unspoken words of your character. Mukti is probably the most layered and tricky character I’ve played, and when every beat of her heart reaches yours, it becomes ISHK! Thank you for all the ISHK.”

“Tere Ishq Mein,” directed by Aanand L. Rai and written by Himanshu Sharma and Neeraj Yadav, also starred Dhanush in the lead role. The film follows Mukti, a young woman portrayed by Kriti Sanon, who falls in love with the intense and rebellious Shankar, played by Dhanush. However, circumstances separate them before their romance can fully blossom. The romantic thriller was released in cinemas on November 28 in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.

Kriti had earlier opened up about stepping into the layered and demanding world of her character Mukti. She revealed that shooting the pre-climax and climax scenes for Tere Ishq Mein had been both physically and emotionally draining. “Mutki’s character has a very diverse graph, what she starts from, what she ends up becoming, her choices, her decisions.. there are a lot of layers to what she is doing. A lot is sometimes not said, a lot of justification, a lot of things why she is doing what she is, not said in words.”“There are a lot of really intense scenes, the pre climax and the climax, which are very very long. That was very draining and we shot it for about 5-6 days. Both physically and emotionally those scenes were extremely draining. At times when I went back home it stayed with me, I felt extremely drained. That scene is the peak of emotions and probably the most intense bit of the film, and it pulled me down the most.” Kriti Sanon calls playing Mukti in ‘Tere Ishq Mein’ most layered and tricky’ character she has ever played | MorungExpress | morungexpress.com

Delhi High Court criticizes PIL filed against ‘The Taj Story’, backs film’s release

Delhi High Court dismisses plea against ‘The Taj Story,’ clears path for film’s release (Photo : IANS/PR)

Mumbai, (IANS) The Delhi High Court, on Wednesday, slammed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed against the upcoming film “The Taj Story.”

Calling it an unnecessary attempt to interfere with artistic freedom, the court criticized the plea and backed the film’s release. A source exclusively told IANS that the court stated creative expression cannot be curtailed without substantial grounds. In the latest update, the Delhi High Court has refused to urgently list a PIL filed to stall or regulate the release of the film “The Taj Story.”

The petitioner had sought an immediate hearing, claiming that the movie might allegedly misrepresent historical facts and disrupt communal harmony ahead of its nationwide release on October 31. However, the court declined the request for urgent intervention, stating that the matter would be addressed in due course following the regular procedure.

Responding to the allegations, director Tushar Amrish Goel said, “The Taj Story is not built on imagination or hearsay, or some fictional stories. It is the result of six months of extensive research done by our team, consultations, and verified historical references. Also, the respected Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) examined every detail and gave the approval to the film only after being fully satisfied with the film’s authenticity. Our intent was never to provoke or create communal tension, but to present a researched perspective that encourages informed discussion. I deeply respect the Delhi High Court’s decision to stand with the film and uphold the spirit of creative freedom. Cinema should remain a space for truth, research, and fearless storytelling.”

Producer CA Suresh Jha added, “All the allegations and the PIL filed against The Taj Story are completely baseless. We have made this film with full honesty, responsibility, and respect for our history. Our only aim is to bring the real story to the world, one that sparks curiosity, dialogue, and pride, not division.”

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the Delhi High Court against the upcoming film “The Taj Story,” alleging that it distorts historical facts and could potentially disrupt communal harmony. The petition, filed by advocate Shakeel Abbas and BJP Leader Rajnish Sing, urges the Central government and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to re-examine the certification granted to the film. The plea contends that “The Taj Story” draws from speculative theories and demands the inclusion of disclaimers and restrictions to prevent public unrest, particularly in Agra.

“The Taj Story” features Paresh Rawal, Zakir Hussain, Amruta Khanvilkar, Sneha Wagh, and Namit Das. The film is scheduled for nationwide release on October 31.

Elizabeth Olsen won't do films if they don't get theatrical release

(Photo: Elizabeth Olsen/ Insta

Los Angeles, (IANS) Hollywood actress Elizabeth Olsen is putting her foot down. The actress has said that she is no longer signing on to Hollywood studio movies that don’t have a guaranteed theatrical release.

As an indie film darling since the start of her career with 2011’s 'Martha Marcy May Marlene', Olsen is comfortable acting in a movie without distribution that gets sold to a streamer, reports 'Variety'.

The actress has shared that her preference is always a theatrical release.

She told 'InStyle' magazine, “If a movie is made independently and only sells to a streamer, then fine. But I don’t want to make something where (streaming is) the end-all. I think it’s important for people to gather as a community, to see other humans, be together in a space".

"That’s why I like sports. I think it’s really powerful for people to come together for something that they’re excited about. We don’t even audition in person anymore", she added.

As per 'Variety', since her last outing as the Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe courtesy of 2022’s 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness', Olsen has made only indie movies such as 2023’s 'His Three Daughters', 2024’s 'The Assessment' and the upcoming A24 romantic comedy 'Eternity'. Only 'His Three Daughters' was backed by a streamer (in this case Netflix), although it was given an awards-qualifying theatrical release in select theaters.

Olsen knows a thing or two about bringing millions of people together in movie theaters thanks to the MCU, where she’s played Scarlet Witch since debuting in the post-credits scene of 2014’s 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier'.

"Making the films are fun. Goofy. It’s ridiculous. We’re grown people like children on a playground”, Olsen said about the MCU. “We’re flying. We’re shooting things out of our hands. And it’s a character that I’ve gotten to return to so many times after over 10 years. It’s good to put her down and then I miss her and I want her back. I’d jump at the opportunity to be in her shoes again".

Olsen added about the pros of the MCU, “It’s the consistency of a community and a job, which is hard to find. The insane camera movement, stunt work and special effects, visual effects that are happening in real time"."It’s a lot of coordination, it’s hundreds and hundreds of people on set, and it’s a powerful thing to be a part of all those people working towards one goal. The people doing the visual effects are artiste. The soul, the spirit, the heart is fulfilled doing it. It does mean something. I care about the acting being great, everyone does", she added. Samantha to be a part of Simbu's 'Arasan'?

(Photo : IANS/samantharuthprabhuoffl/insta)

Chennai, (IANS) If sources in the industry are to be believed, the makers of director Vetrimaaran's much-awaited film 'Arasan', featuring actor Simbu in the lead, are considering casting actress Samantha or Keerthy Suresh as the female lead in the film.

IANS has learnt from reliable sources that the unit is currently in talks with actress Samantha for the role.

It may be recalled that it was only on Tuesday that the makers announced the title of the film as 'Arasan'.

Producer Kalaipuli S Thanu, whose V Creations is producing the film, took to his X timeline to make the announcement.

He wrote in Tamil,"Aalapirandha Arasan, Vetriyudan Silambarasan. #VetriMaaran @SilambarasanTR_ #STR49 #SilambarasanTR #VCreations47 #ARASAN. (The king who was born to rule! Victorious Silambarasan!)."

The producer also shared the poster of the film which showed a man holding a machete in his hand with his hand placed on the carrier of a bicycle.

The announcement on Tuesday put to rest rumours about the film being shelved.

It may be recalled that IANS had reported earlier that the film was definitely on and that contrary to speculation, the film had not been shelved. The announcement on Tuesday came on the heels of some news reports that had claimed that the film had been shelved because of financial trouble.

The rumours began doing the rounds after there were alleged financial hurdles and external pressure to drop the project. However, sources had told IANS that the film's shooting would definitely happen and that Silambarasan TR had opted for a profit-sharing model instead of upfront remuneration.

Vetrimaran's film with Simbu will also feature Andrea Jeremiah, Samuthirakani, and Kishore in key roles.

It may be recalled that director Vetrimaran had recently put an end to all the speculation surrounding the second part of his eagerly-awaited film 'Vada Chennai'. Vetri Maran had said that his next film would feature Simbu in the lead but that this would not be Vada Chennai 2 as was being speculated in some sections of the media. He made it clear that however, the story of this film would be set in the world of 'Vada Chennai'.

In an interview to his own YouTube channel some months ago, Vetrimaran had given details about 'Arasan' saying, "My next film is to be produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu and will feature Simbu in the lead."Dismissing the speculation that this film with Simbu was 'Vada Chennai 2', Vetri Maran had said, “There is a lot of speculation if this will be 'Vada Chennai 2'. I want to clear that speculation as well. This is not 'Vada Chennai 2'. What Dhanush acts in will be 'Vada Chennai 2'. However, this story will also be set in the world of 'Vada Chennai', which means certain aspects of that world will be there in this story as well. This story will also be in a similar timeline.” Samantha to be a part of Simbu's 'Arasan'? | MorungExpress | morungexpress.com

Jennifer Aniston recalls fighting with studio over ‘Horrible Bosses’ ‘wig’

(photo : IANS/jenniferaniston/insta)

Los Angeles,  (IANS) Hollywood star Jennifer Aniston recalled how she battled a studio over a brunette hued wig for the 2011 comedy “Horrible Bosses.”

Aniston told Vanity Fair during a career retrospective video interview that she fought Warner Bros. to wear a brunette wig in the 2011 comedy “Horrible Bosses.” The studio wanted Aniston on-screen with her iconic blonde tresses.

“I fought for that wig. That was not an easy battle,” Aniston said.

The actress said: “I wanted (my character) to look different. The argument from the studio, and I am sorry to call you out, was that ‘we are afraid it won’t look like you.’ That’s kind of the point! I still think it might look a little bit like me. But I’m glad I fought for it and stuck to my guns.”

Aniston starred in “Horrible Bosses” as Dr. Julia Harris, a sexually aggressive dentist who is harassing her assistant (Charlie Day), reports variety.com.

The raunchy R-rated comedy, along with 2013’s “We’re the Millers,” was seen as a big change in pace for Aniston as it actively pivoted away from her persona as a “girl next door.”

“I was always seen as a girl next door or the ingenuine,” Aniston said.

“It was so fun to play something like this because it’s so far away from anything that I am. That’s what the director liked. It’s so much not what you would expect from (me). That was the fun of it. That’s what made it more creatively exciting for me obviously.”

“Horrible Bosses,” also starring Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, Colin Farrell, Kevin Spacey and Jamie Foxx, was a box office hit with just over $200 million worldwide. The 56-year-old actress and the majority of the original cast returned for the 2014 sequel, “Horrible Bosses 2.” Jennifer Aniston recalls fighting with studio over ‘Horrible Bosses’ ‘wig’ | MorungExpress | morungexpress.com

“‘Michael’ explores the global superstar’s journey to become known to the world as the King of Pop, presenting an intimate look at the life and enduring legacy of one of the most influential, trailblazing artists the world has ever known,” the synopsis reads.

Lionsgate is releasing the film domestically, with Universal handling distribution in the rest of the world except for Japan, which is handled by Kino Films.

Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said in May that the movie was “likely” to move to 2026.

Although it wrapped production in May 2024, the project underwent reshoots and came in with a lengthy initial cut. Earlier, there had been discussion about releasing the film in two parts.

“Michael” also stars Colman Domingo and Nia Long as family heads Joe and Katherine Jackson. Miles Teller plays John Branca, Jackson’s attorney and advisor.

Larenz Tate plays Motown Records founder Berry Gordy, with Laura Harrier as music executive Suzanne de Passe and Kat Graham will appear as Diana Ross.

Other cast members include Jessica Sula as La Toya Jackson, Michael’s older sister; Liv Symone as Gladys Knight; Kevin Shinick as Dick Clark; KeiLyn Durrel Jones as Jackson’s former security-turned-trusted friend and confidante Bill Bray; and Kendrick Sampson as Quincy Jones, who first met Michael Jackson when he was just 12 years old, reports variety.com.

It was in 2009, when MJ died of acute propofol intoxication in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 50. His personal physician, Conrad Murray, said that he found Jackson in his bedroom at his North Carolwood Drive home in the Holmby Hills area of the city not breathing and with a weak pulse; he administered CPR to no avail, and security called 9-1-1. Paramedics treated Jackson at the scene, but he was pronounced dead at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Westwood.

Later, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner concluded that Jackson's death was a homicide. Jackson had been administered propofol and anti-anxiety benzodiazepines lorazepam and midazolam by his doctor.Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in November 2011, and was released in 2013 after serving two years of his four-year prison sentence with time off for good behavior.Michael Jackson biopic now scheduled to release in April 2026 | MorungExpress | morungexpress.com

Aamir Khan’s big screen comeback, Sitaare Zameen Par, features an all-star neurodivergent cast – a Bollywood first

Yanyan Hong, University of Adelaide

Bollywood star Aamir Khan’s return to the big screen after a three-year hiatus has been far from ordinary. Sitaare Zameen Par (2025) which translates to “stars on Earth”, is the first major Bollywood production to feature a mostly neurodivergent cast.

A remake of the 2018 Spanish film Campeones, the story follows a mouthy, knuckle-headed basketball coach, Gulshan (Aamir Khan), who is put in charge of a team of players with intellectual disabilities.

The film slowly grows into itself, much like its characters, but ultimately delivers what the trailer promises: a heartwarming, humorous and uplifting celebration of our individual differences.

In an era of blockbuster spectacles, Aamir Khan Productions brings back a kind of Bollywood storytelling we haven’t seen in a while – something sincere, gentle and quietly revolutionary.

Who is Aamir Khan?

Aamir Khan was born in Mumbai in 1965, and started his acting career as a child actor in his uncle’s film Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973).

Khan is now one of Bollywood’s most enduring and respected figures. He is one of the iconic “three Khans”, alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan (the three are unrelated), who have dominated Indian cinema since the 1990s.

But unlike his Khan counterparts, Aamir Khan has carved a unique career path built on both commercial success and socially-driven storytelling.

He is known for championing social causes through cinema. In one 2015 article, media studies professor Vamsee Juluri referred to him as a “national conscience figure”.

Khan’s films don’t just entertain; they challenge norms and often spark national conversations on important issues.

From producing Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India (2001), India’s Oscar-nominated colonial-era sports epic, to his directorial debut Taare Zameen Par (2007), a moving portrait of a child with dyslexia, Khan’s work often brings underrepresented stories to the mainstream.

His film PK (2014) challenges religious dogma. Meanwhile, Dangal (2016) is a boundary-pushing film based on real-life female wrestlers from rural India, and is also Bollywood’s highest-grossing film of all time.

Beyond the box office, Khan has hosted the TV show Satyamev Jayate (2012–14), which is also the national emblem of India, meaning “truth alone triumphs”.

This show tackles various topics considered taboo in Indian societies, including female feticide, domestic violence and caste discrimination. It has reached millions of households, and even ignited parliamentary debates.

Khan is also popular in other countries, including China, where his films 3 Idiots (2009), Dangal (2016) and Secret Superstar (2017) were massive hits that resonated with audiences for their universal themes.

Sitaare Zameen Par marks his return following the commercial underperformance of Laal Singh Chaddha (2022), an Indian remake of Forrest Gump (1994).

Sitaare (stars) who make the film shine

Directed by R.S. Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par enjoyed a strong opening weekend at the box office.

It stars ten individuals with special needs as they prepare for a basketball tournament under the direction of their coach (Khan). This plot alone makes the film a significant entry to Indian cinema, which often ignores or misrepresents disability.

Despite early online trolling and negativity, the film depicts its neurodivergent characters not as victims, or “inspirations”, but simply as people with dreams, struggles and joy.

One line captures this beautifully: “Everyone sticks to their own normal. We each have our own normal.”

Aamir Khan, now 60, plays a key role in the film, but doesn’t dominate it. Instead, his younger co-stars shine. The result is a healing film that celebrates inclusion, while being full of joy and humanity.

Stories that matter

No film is perfect. But it’s hard to dislike a film made with so much compassion.

Bollywood as an industry has increasingly leaned into action-packed blockbusters, as well as nationalist and Hindu-centred narratives (such as in the 2022 film Brahmāstra).

While many of these offer thrills, few deliver the kind of emotional and social depth that once defined Hindi cinema’s global appeal. Much like Taare Zameen Par – a spiritual prequel to the new release – did 18 years ago, Sitaare Zameen Par invites the audience to slow down and reflect.

It prompts neurotypical viewers to see people with Down’s syndrome as part of the same emotional universe as them – and to laugh with, not at them.

In an interview, Khan explains how the film goes further than just neurodivergent representation, to participation:

In [Taare Zameen Par], it’s the teacher, Nikumbh, a supposedly neuro-typical person, who helps the child with dyslexia. In this film, ten neuro-atypical people are helping the coach, Gulshan. I feel Sitare takes the discourse of the first film ten steps ahead, especially in our country where people need to be sensitised to the topic of neurodivergence.

Last week, India’s president, Droupadi Murmu, attended a special screening and met the cast. The visit sent a clear messsage: stories like this matter.

With Sitaare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan returns to what he does best: using film as both a mirror and message for Indian society. While it won’t change the world overnight, it will make viewers see the world, and each other, a little differently. The Conversation
