Disney Nature's Chimpanzee (Movie Review And Guide)

A new True Life Adventure introducing an adorable baby chimp named Oscar and his entertaining approach to life in a remarkable story of family bonds and individual triumph. Oscar's playful curiosity and zest for discovery showcase the intelligence and ingenuity of some of the most extraordinary personalities in the animal kingdom. Working together, Oscar's chimpanzee family-including his mom and the group's savvy leader - navigates the complex territory of the forest. The world is a playground for little Oscar and his fellow young chimps, who'd rather make mayhem than join their parents for an afternoon nap. But when Oscar's family is confronted by a rival band of chimps, he is left to fend for himself until a surprising ally steps in and changes his life forever.
BY AMY: My niece and I watched Disney Nature's Chimpanzee today as part of her home-school unit on African animals. This is one of the most sensitive and beautiful nature films that I have ever seen. Narrated by Tim Allen, Chimpanzee tells the story of Oscar, a young chimpanzee and his family group. The film their  covers heartache and triumphs as they live amongst the wilds of a rain-forest in Africa. The relationship between Oscar and his mother, Isha, is beautiful. My niece was amazed at how much chimpanzee children are like human children. They play, get in trouble, don't like bedtime, and love their mothers. Much like  humans, chimpanzees learn how to survive by watching their family members go about their daily lives; gathering food, making and using tools, finding places to sleep, and protecting each other. By the end of the film, you will have a greater understanding of these amazing creatures.
Disney has created a 19 page Activity Guide with activities, games, and educational sheets to help teach children more about chimpanzees. The  guide has activities for several different age levels and would be a great supplement to keep kids talking about chimpanzees and the natural world. The guide can be downloaded from Disney's Chimpanzee website here. At the Chimpanzee website, you will also find an Educators Guide for grades 2-6, a photo gallerywallpaper downloads for your computer, and more. Disney also has links to the Blu-ray, DVD, Chimpanzee  Book that offers a behind the scenes look at the making of the film, and even 13" Oscar plush. When you purchase the Oscar plush, a $1 donation will be made to the Jane Goodall Institute to help them protect chimpanzee habitats,  educate schoolchildren, and care for orphaned chimpanzees. This film is by turns happy and sad. I won't spoil the story, but be
aware that there are attacks by rival groups, and even some deaths, that my be hard for young children to understand. I would recommend previewing Chimpanzee before sharing it with young children, but I think this film is a wonderful way to help introduce children to the wonders of the natural world. ***  Source: http://disney-at-heart.blogspot.com/http://www.starpulse.com/

Avril Lavigne planning rock 'n' roll wedding

Singer-actress Avril Lavigne is putting a rock 'n' roll spin on her upcoming nuptials with Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger. Kroger, who had a traditional ceremony in mind, said Lavigne has taken control of the wedding plans and wants an unforgettable celebration for her second trip down the aisle, reported Daily Star. "We (grooms) get such an incredibly small chunk in terms of what we can actually participate in... I get control over nothing. I just show up. But I'm glad, because she has...traversed these territories before. These are unchartered (sic) waters for me. So it's nice to have her to guide me through this. "She's got great ideas. I would have gone a little too traditional, I think, and she's giving it a real rock 'n' roll edge. The groomsmen won't be wearing piano neckties (but) let's just say she's taking the bull by the horns and steering the ship towards what is going to be the most unique wedding that the planet has probably ever seen," he said. Kroeger, who announced his engagement to Lavigne in August this year, insists he never envisioned himself settling down. "There was a time in my life that I thought I would never get married. But this definitely took me by storm. Honestly, it was more my idea than hers to get married. I'm just lucky she said yes," he added. Lavigne, 28, was previously married to Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley, and also dated reality TV star Brody Jenner before they split earlier this year. Source: Screen-IndiaImage: flickr.com

She has spent £10,000 on surgery and outfits to look like her beloved dolls

Brizzleleo: Promotions girl Charlotte, 24, went under the knife to get a perfect nose like Barbie's and had her lips plumped. She also dyed her hair blonde, and spent all her spare cash on girlie outfits to complete the look. Charlotte said: "I told the clinic I loved Barbie and I'd love to have that look. It was really painful. "My face was bruised afterwards and it took a few weeks for the swelling to go down. "But when I took the bandages off it was well worth it. Then I dyed my hair blonde. It's completely changed my appearance and I think it looks pretty good. "What girl doesn't want to be like Barbie? I've got a few Sindys as well, but Barbie is much better looking." Charlotte has collected hundreds of dolls, which she keeps in a special room at her Manchester home. She said: "I must have spent thousands on Barbies and all their clothes. Some people may think it's a little weird, but I think it's great. "There are so many. I've got gym Barbie, tropical Barbie, Cinderella Barbie, Chinese New Year Barbie. There's a Barbie for every occasion, and I'd love to have them all" Charlotte got hooked after getting her first one aged three. She said: "Me and my sister would have massive Barbie weddings. I guess I've just never changed." Single Charlotte hopes to find a Ken of her own after splitting with her last boyfriend over her fixation. She admitted: "Boys don't like it that I love Barbie so much. But I don't mind. If the right man comes along he'll love me and my Barbies." Source: BrizzleleoDaily-Protein

The Best Movies We've Seen In 2012 So Far

Technically, June 15 (or thereabout) would mark the mid-point of 2012. So if we were grading the film’s released in the first half of the year, we’d have to draw a line in the sand at that moment. But that would mean ignoring too many instant classics that rolled out over the second half of the summer season this year. We’re gearing up for the fall film season, when studios stockpile most of their possible awards contenders. The last few months of 2012 should be crowded with valuable viewing opportunities, so we wanted to take a moment and reflect on the best films we’ve seen so far this year. Hopefully, we’ll spotlight a film you haven’t seen yet, and, if so, inspire you to go hunt it down as soon as you can. And because most of us on staff singled out one particular film as we discussed which movies we’d write
The Cabin in the Woods by Kristy Puchko
about, we’re kicking off the feature with: As an unrepentant fan of horror films, I often have to explain my love of the genre to those who just don't get it. But when a horror movie comes along that's as ferocious, frightening and fun as Cabin in the Woods, my devotion is easily validated. Co-creators Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon spurred new appreciation for this oft-maligned genre by not only offering plenty of ghastly gore and powerful scares, but also drawing attention to the mechanization behind typical terrifying scenarios, and how these reflect our modern zeitgeist. From the blood-drenched fight for survival that befell some carefully selected college co-eds to the sardonic humor of the control room, Cabin in the Woods delivered on levels of terror and laughs, while offering its viewers something meatier in which to tear. Sure, you can enjoy this horror-comedy for its thrills and wit alone. But the film also raises questions about the “whys” of contemporary horror. Why is an extroverted woman reduced to her sexuality, and so deemed worthy of gruesome death? Why are bravery and intelligence similarly reason enough for execution? Why is a female virgin always given a chance at salvation? And ultimately, why play into a world with such twisted rules?
Moonrise Kingdom by Jesse Carp
It’s not hard to imagine that a Wes Anderson film would fall into my No. 1 slot in a look back on the year’s best from the middle of August (or anytime), but few figured it would be the frontrunner on the majority of these lists. Anderson’s movies are generally well received by critics -- more admired than loved -- yet Moonrise Kingdom hasn’t just captured those hardest of hearts and minds but also the money, uh, hearts of mainstream audiences. It’s not only a critical hit, it’s also a blockbuster! Jiminy Cricket! Moonrise contains all of Anderson’s usual storytelling affectations, not to mention his immaculately composed moving tableaux, but for some reason this tale has found a larger following than even his Academy Award nominee (The Royal Tenenbaums). The compositions are intricate and colorful, with the small (and fictitious) New England island serving as the perfect 1960s setting for his attention to detail and the charming yet significant story of Suzy and Sam’s forbidden love. Moonrise Kingdom may be full of magic and whimsy in the stunning cinematography, wonderful score and many great performances. But Wes’ artifice also allows for the most emotionally satisfying experiences I’ve had at the cinema in some time.
Take This Waltz by Katey Rich
After making her directorial debut with the heartbreaking drama Away From Her a few years back, Sarah Polley established herself as one of the more surprising and interesting new voices behind the camera, and before she had even turned 30 told one of the more raw and relatable stories of romance between two people near the end of their lives. But it's in Take This Waltz, with Polley turning her camera toward characters of her own age, that she really makes her voice known. Take This Waltz is a wild, colorful burst of romance and sadness and longing, letting the intense emotions of a would-be affair bleed over into the filmmaking itself, boldly blurring the line between a not necessarily likable heroine (Michelle Williams, incredible as always) and the audience who must go along with her anyway. As a story that for a while is about unspoken passion between a woman and her hunky neighbor (newcomer Luke Kirby), Take This Waltz dares to say everything out loud -- it may be the first movie that looks how an exciting new love feels. That kind of grab-you-by-the-throat bravura for telling such a small story isn't for everyone, but if it works, as it did for me, you won't be able to forget it.
Magic Mike by Mack Rawden
Magic Mike is a filthy movie. Like a good strip club, it’s an obnoxious, kinda skuzzy, talk-about-it-with-your-friends experience. It features drugs, fighting, dancing, the good kind of three-way, and just about every other debaucherous practice you can fathom. Altogether, it’s enough to ensure the film a lifetime of impulse rentals next to the National Lampoon straight-to-DVD films. Luckily, thanks to careful direction, good acting performances and actually giving a shit about its characters, Magic Mike is so much more. It’s all about balance. If you’re going to make a movie about dudes stripping, you need to show dudes stripping. Magic Mike does that. It’s never ashamed of what it fundamentally is, but it also doesn’t use that premise as an excuse not to develop its characters or give them interesting side plots. By the end, you really care about the decisions “Magic” Mike and his buddies make, and in a way, that makes
Goon by Kelly West
their exploits a hell of a lot more fun. Directed by Michael Dowse, with a screenplay written by Jay Baruchel and Evan Goldberg, Goon tells the story of the rise of minor league hockey player Doug Glatt. On the surface, he appears to be little more than a dim-witted bar bouncer and hockey enforcer who knows how to throw down the gloves and fight. But beneath the meathead exterior is a man with a giant heart and the determination to serve his team as best he can. In addition to having some great hockey moments, Goon is funny and sweet, and - thanks in part to the charm and humor of Alison Pill and her chemistry with Scott - there's also an incredibly adorable little love story worked into the plot. Just as Doug Glatt is a man who understands where he fits into the game and in a way, the world, Goon is a movie that understands its purpose, and it never tries to be anything more than exactly what it is. It's not trying to inspire anyone or send some message about team spirit, and yet it manages to do that, while also delivering plenty of laughs. Not only is Goonone of my favorite movies this year, but it also belongs on the list of must-see hockey movies.
Safety Not Guaranteed by Sean O’Connell
My favorite film from South By Southwest 2012 remains the best movie I’ve screened to date this year. Colin Trevorrow’s endearing Safety Not Guaranteed seems to wrap itself in two distinctly protective coatings: A faux-edgy shield of snarky Gen-Y attitude, and the cool aloofness of dime-store science fiction. Yet with each passing minute, the layers shed to reveal a weird, gentle, open-hearted and embraceable core that’s pulses with warmth, comfort and, yes, a necessary dose of Duplass observational humor. Mark Duplass (the Gene Hackman of 2012) plays Kenneth, a paranoid loner who places a classified ad seeking a partner for a time-travel mission. Aubrey Plaza plays Darious, the skeptical journalist ordered by her editor (Jake M. Johnson, in a breakout role) to investigate Kenneth’s oddball claims. But Safety becomes less about the act of time travel, and more about why we’d want to ever travel through time in the first place. It carries us on a wave of sarcastic energy and plausible hope to those personal moments before life stopped cooperating. And it builds towards an impossibly adorable ending that prompted the audience in my theater (myself included) to stand up and cheer like wahoos. An
The Avengers by Eric Eisenberg
uplifting, spiritual time at the movies? It’s all but Guaranteed. While so many films have failed and/or disappointed this year, Joss Whedon’s The Avengers cannot be included on that list. In fact, if anything, it’s the year’s greatest surprise. When it was first announced in 2008 that Marvel Studios would be working to create a cinematic universe that would lead to the likes of heroes like Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and Hulk meeting together on the big screen for the first time, the project seemed far too ambitious to be real … and too much of a challenge to be done well. Well, this summer the studio -- and Whedon -- proved everyone wrong, and what we got was one of the best films of the year so far and one of the greatest comic book movies of all time. And the reason the movie was so successful is because he had everything we were hoping for. It was laugh-out-loud funny, featured some of the best superhero action we’ve ever seen, was packed to the gills with amazing performances, featured some deep, emotional moments and, most importantly, it was all brought together by a filmmaker who truly understood the characters and why they are so essential to us. The Avengers was better than anyone could have hoped for or should have expected, and we should all be thankful. Source: CinemaBlend.com

Beauty and Brains

Hedy Lamarr, an Austrian-American actress (November 9, 1913 – January 19, 2000) who a major contract star of MGM's "Golden Age." Besides being known for her extraordinarily haunting beauty, not many people knew that Hedy was also an inventor! Yup. With composer George Antheil, Hedy co-invented an early technique for spread spectrum communications and frequency hopping necessary to wireless communication from the pre-computer age to the present day. According to writer Richard Rhodes, "She [Hedy] set aside one room in her home, had a drafting table installed with the proper lighting, and the proper
tools - had a whole wall in the room of engineering reference books." That, Rhodes said, was where she "invented." Hedy's other inventions included a better Kleenex box and a new traffic signal but neither invention went anywhere. But her idea for a radio-controlled torpedo guided by a signal that couldn't be intercepted ("frequency hopping") was patented. Hedy's notion of "frequency hopping" became the basis for most modern WiFi technology. "Today, frequency hopping is used with the wireless phones that we have in our homes, GPS, most military communication systems - it's very widely used," said Rhodes. "Hedy had quietly signed her patent over to the Navy, and left it at that. She gave the technology away, and never made a dime off of it," stated Rhodes. Oh well... at least we know that she neither was greedy nor boastful (two traits that are not so beautiful). And although Hedy may not have received any scientific awards for her inventions,Source: Critical Beauty

Working for tribal welfare is her mission

Srikripa Raghunathan, a social work postgraduate from TISS is on a mission to find out what is causing acute anemia among the tribes of Gond, Oreon and Pandu of Jagannathpur, a remote area in Chhattisgarh. She spoke to Varsha Torgalkar about her quest to finding a solution. A Hyderabadi girl Srikripa Ragunathan has been trying to understand food consumption patterns of tribal people in the village Jagannathpur in Chhattisgarh who are suffering from malnutrition. She wants to come up with the solution to the health problems of these tribal folk.  What does your work involve? I had roamed around villages in Chhattisgarh for the first six months of this year. I have been staying in this village called Jagannathpur and have been trying to understand food consumption patterns of households here. Three major tribes- Gond, Oreon and Pandu inhabit this area. Most of the women here are anemic. I mingle and talk with them try to understand their daily food consumption pattern and timing is, choice of food – ingredients and method of cooking. Found any solutions yet?  I have been here for only six months. I am still an outsider so I am trying to build a rapport with them. I cannot simply put my ideas before them. First there is the need to understand their culture, thinking and habits. Next, I have to win their trust. Then only there can be a better interaction and we will be able to know the difficulties they are undergoing and bring out solution that are agreeable to them. We have to necessarily bring out solutions that are in line with their with their traditions or be good at convincing them to give up certain old ways of thinking and adopt new methods to get over their problems. Why did you choose this place? I have done my MA in Social Work from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. I have got a two-year fellowship. As a part of the programme, I am working on this project. I was always keen to work in health sector in remote areas which is neglected in our country. I want to understand community health and the prominent and prevalent issues in this sector. I am keen on setting up a youth centre here. I am also making efforts to bring about government health service programmes to this area. Source: The Hans India

I simply want to "enjoy motherhood": Aishwarya Rai

By Gahoi Ad Online Media: Aishwarya Rai, who has been heavily criticized for not losing her baby weight in stellar time, Bachchan is not letting cruel weight jibes spoil her baby bliss. The 38-year-old actress couldn't help but gush about her six-month-old baby girl Aaradhya as she posed on the red-carpet at the Cannes premiere of Cosmopolis this evening. "Motherhood is wonderful. You ask the question and I beam!" said Aishwarya. "It's splendid... It's inexplicable. The joy, the bliss, is wonderful. A smile from my daughter and that's it! She's good. She's great," she told. The former Miss World, who is wedded to Abhishek Bachchan, the son of one of India's best-loved stars, gave birth to her daughter, in November last year. She found international fame in the Hollywood film 'Bride and Prejudice', and Julia Roberts billed her as the world's most beautiful woman. But an unfortunate recent photograph that captured her with a double chin sparked a flurry of cruel criticism, with some suggesting that she has a "duty" to her fans to get back her pre-pregnancy figure. One website posted a video of the star looking less than her usual svelte self, flicking between photographs of her pre-birth, and photos now. Called "Aishwarya Rai's shocking weight gain", the clip, which came accompanied by elephant sound effects, has been seen more than 500,000 times. Dozens more videos in a similar vein have been posted, each with viewing figures in the tens or hundreds of thousands. Comments left after the video prove that many of those watching have little sympathy for the star. However, she has commendably remained cool-headed about the criticism, and has been open about the fact that she is in no hurry to lose the few extra pounds she gained during her pregnancy. She has told that she simply wants to "enjoy motherhood".Source: GaramGossips

Nice kitty! New Dark Knight Rises posters show Anne Hathaway's Catwoman in all her glory

Travelfwd: Stealing hearts: Comic book fans will surely be taken with Anne Hathaway's portrayal of Catwoman if the new Dark Knight Rises posters are any guide Box office pundits have been stunned at the runaway success of Marvel movie The Avengers. But a series of new posters released to promote the Dark Knight Rises show the 2012 could still well be the year of the Bat. Comic book geeks around the world are sure to smile when they see the dramatic images of Anne Hathaway's portrayal of the saucy thief Catwoman. She wears her sexy but functional costume in both the images, straddling her militaristic motorbike in one image, and standing in the rain in another. Anne, 29, has been waxing lyrical about her outfit, saying: 'I love the costume because everything has a purpose. 'Nothing is in place for fantasy's sake, and that's the case with everything in Christopher Nolan's Gotham City.' Rain is in fact a theme in three of the images, with both Batman and his arch-enemy Bane photographed standing in a downpour. And while some will think it merely means the superhero forgot to put his Bat-brolly in his utility belt, film aficionados will realise it usually is a symbol for serious loss or death. The fact the posters bear the slogan 'the legend ends,' as well as a variation of the Knightsend symbol, which was used at the end of the Knightfall story in which the Batman had his back broken by Bane in the comics, offer a further clue that Bruce Wayne could be about to come a cropper. It is unclear at the moment whether this version of the character, who is being played by Tom Hardy, will use the strength-boosting drug venom like in the comics. But whatever tricks he has up his sleeve, it looks certain Batman is in for his biggest challenge yet. Schoolboy cracks age-old maths problem

A 16-year-old schoolboy has solved a mathematical problem which has stumped mathematicians for centuries, a newspaper report said. The boy put the historical breakthrough down to “schoolboy naivety.” Shouryya Ray, who moved to Germany from India with his family at the age of 12, has baffled scientists and mathematicians by solving two fundamental particle dynamics problems posed by Sir Isaac Newton over 350 years ago, Die Welt newspaper reported on Monday. Ray’s solutions make it possible to now calculate not only the flight path of a ball, but also predict how it will hit and bounce off a wall. Previously it had only been possible to estimate this using a computer, wrote the paper. Ray first came across the old problem when his secondary school, which specializes in science, set all their year-11 pupils a research project. On a visit to the Technical University in Dresden pupils received raw data to evaluate a direct numerical simulation – which can be used to describe the trajectory of a ball when it is thrown. When he realised the current method could not get an exact result, Ray decided to have a go at solving it. He puts the whole thing down to “schoolboy naivety” - he just refused to accept there was no answer to the problem. “I asked myself: why can’t it work?” he told the paper. Ray has been fascinated by what he calls the “intrinsic beauty“ of maths since an early age, according to the report. The boy was inspired by his engineer father who began setting him arithmetic problems at the age of six. He recently won a youth science competition at the state level in Saxony and won second place in the Maths and IT section at the national final. Originally from Calcutta, Ray couldn’t speak a word of German when he came to Dresden four years ago – but now he is fluent. Since then, he was moved up two classes in school and is currently sitting his Abitur exams two years early. But Ray doesn’t think he’s a genius, and told the paper he has weak points as a mathematician, as well as in sports and social sciences. Ray, whose recent breakthrough may have earned him a paragraph in the schoolbooks of the future, is currently deciding whether to study maths or physics at university. Source: Sam Daily Times

No solution for the SRK and Salman’s rivalry

By by Gahoi Ad Online Media: It seems that Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan will never ever patch up. This was pretty evident at two different events. Last week, a gala event was organized by business tycoon Mukesh Ambani and his wife Neeta, honour Sachin Tendulkar. The grand party has attended by celebrities from different fields as Bollywood stars, cricketers and even politicians. Bollywood superstars from Aamir to Salman Khan to Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai were all in attendance. However, the Baadshah, Shahrukh Khan was absent. As reported previously too, Salman went on and on praising Sachin, Salman told, “I hope record ye toot jaye…koi na koi isse tod de…main Aamir ka record bahut der se todney ki koshish kar raha hoon…toot hi nahin raha hai… “Sachin ke record todna mushkil hi nahin namumkin hai…aur ye Don nahin main bol raha hoon. Aur bol bhi sakta hoon kyonki mera father (Salim Khan) ne likhi hai ye picture. Rights toh unhi ke paas ahin. Amitji (Amitabh Bachchan) ne ki thi ye picture.” This clearly would have reached Shahrukh. Getting back at Salman, SRK while speaking at the unveiling of customer campaign for season five of the Indian Premier League (IPL), said journalists, “I get numb by the kind of stories I keep hearing about myself. I try not to take them seriously or comment about them.”  What did SRK have to say about Salman Khan explaining that his father wrote that line for Amitabh Bachchan and that he has every right to use it. “Yes, I made the right comments. My father did not take any objection on that,” SRK said journalists. Source: GaramGossips

Angelina Jolie highlights humanitarian crises

Film star Angelina Jolie will use her powerful box office fame to draw wider attention to some of the world's worst humanitarian disasters, the U.N. refugee agency said last week. Jolie, who has already served more than 10 years as goodwill ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), is taking on a new role as special envoy for large-scale crises that cause huge numbers of civilians to flee their homelands. She is expected to deal with complex emergencies and protracted crises including Afghanistan and Somalia that have driven millions of refugees into neighboring countries where they remain for years due to the lack of political solution. "UNHCR is pleased to announce today that Angelina Jolie will take on a new and expanded role for the U.N. refugee agency as Special Envoy of High Commissioner Antonio Guterres," UNHCR spokesman Adrian Edwards told a news briefing in Geneva. The Oscar-winning Jolie was due to be named Special Representative on the Afghan refugee crisis last October, but there was no final agreement. "In her new role, she is expected to focus on large-scale crises resulting in the mass displacement of people, to undertake advocacy and represent UNHCR and Mr. Guterres at the diplomatic level," Edwards said. This can include "conveying messages to governments" and emphasising the need to adhere to human rights law, he added. The Tomb Raider star has already made 40 field visits to remote hotspots in more than 20 countries, including Afghanistan, Bosnia, Haiti, Iraq and Sudan. She has donated at least $5 million which has helped build schools in Kenya and Afghanistan, the UNHCR said. "Quite honestly, I don't think you need a rocket scientist to see the benefits that she is bringing in terms of the attention that she's getting for the plight of the world's displaced," he said. She will be making a fresh field visit in coming days but he declined to identify the region or country for security reasons. *** Source: Screen India
