Milind Soman says OTT platforms are giving 90s actors a new lease of opportunities

IANS Photo

Mumbai, December 22 (IANS): Actor Milind Soman has highlighted how the entertainment industry has transformed with the rise of OTT and digital platforms.

Speaking exclusively to IANS during an event organized by Zydus Pinkathon, Milind Soman spoke about opportunities for veteran actors. He explained that with more content being created for films and streaming platforms, experienced actors from the 90s are now getting a chance to showcase their talent and make a strong mark in the industry. When asked about the resurgence of 90s actors in today’s entertainment landscape, the Paurashpur actor stated that the rise of OTT platforms has helped the older generation gain more opportunities.

Milind Soman shared, “I would say that the entire industry has changed because we now have the internet, OTT platforms have emerged, and there is much more entertainment available. Today, there are more options for entertainment—films are being made, shows are being created for OTT. Because of this, actors from the older generation are also getting more opportunities. And since they have more experience, when we watch them, they perform their roles exceptionally well. So, I think it’s a good time for everyone; opportunities are available everywhere.”

Needless to say, OTT platforms have given a new lease of life to 90s actors like Bobby Deol. Although his career started on a high note, he struggled to make a lasting mark in the industry. Deol's recent work in streaming hits such as “Aashram” and “Class of 83” has, however, marked a remarkable comeback.

Similarly, recently Akshaye Khanna has also benefited from the changing entertainment landscape. In his recent release “Dhurandhar,” he delivered a performance that was widely appreciated.Speaking of Milind Soman, the actor has made notable appearances in several popular OTT shows. He starred as Boris in the fantasy drama “Paurashpur,” and portrayed Dr. Aamir Warsi in the acclaimed series “Four More Shots Please.” Milind Soman says OTT platforms are giving 90s actors a new lease of opportunities | MorungExpress | morungexpress.com

Shruti Haasan talks about her undying love for ‘The Night of the Hunter’

Mumbai: Actress Shruti Haasan arrives at the airport in Mumbai (Photo: IANS)

Mumbai,  (IANS) Actor-singer Shruti Haasan revisited one of her long-time cinematic obsessions as she shared a moment from the 1955 horror thriller cult classic “The Night of the Hunter” directed by Charles Laughton.

Shruti took to her Instagram stories and re-posted an eerie still from the film, calling it a timeless favourite.

“Forever obsessed with this film,” she wrote, reaffirming her admiration for the Laughton-directed thriller, known for its haunting imagery and performances.

“The Night of the Hunter” stars Robert Mitchum, Shelley Winters and Lillian Gish. The film was based on the 1953 novel of the same name by Davis Grubb.

The plot is about Preacher Harry Powell (Mitchum), a serial killer who poses as a preacher and pursues two children in an attempt to get his hands on $10,000 of stolen cash hidden by their late father.

The novel and film draw on the true story of Harry Powers, who was hanged in 1932 for the murder of two widows and three children in Clarksburg, West Virginia.

The film's lyrical and expressionistic style, borrowing techniques from silent film, sets it apart from other Hollywood films of the 1940s and 1950s, and it has influenced such later directors as Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Robert Altman, Spike Lee, Martin Scorsese, the Coen brothers and Guillermo del Toro.

The Night of the Hunter premiered on July 26, 1955, in Des Moines, Iowa, to negative reviews. Over the years, the film has been positively reevaluated and is considered one of the greatest films ever made.

That was very draining and we shot it for about 5-6 days. Both physically and emotionally those scenes were extremely draining. Sonam Kapoor spotlights fashion from Manipur

Actress Sonam Kapoor recently hosted Architectural Digest’s Global Editorial Director, Amy Astley, for a private dinner in Mumbai, using the event to again spotlight Indian craftsmanship.

For the occasion, Kapoor wore an outfit from the label East, founded by Manipuri designer Easternlight Zimik. Her ensemble was an Akha set from the brand’s Patrons Collection, noted for its refined craftsmanship and subtle details reflecting the textile heritage of India’s northeastern region.

Kapoor has long used her platform on international red carpets and in public appearances to promote indigenous Indian brands, handwoven textiles, and traditional embroidery.

Designer Easternlight Zimik said actress Sonam Kapoor’s decision to wear one of his creations represents a “breakthrough” for the crafts and culture of India’s northeastern region, advocating for its traditional attire to be celebrated nationally alongside the saree.

Zimik, founder of the label East, made the statement after Kapoor hosted a dinner for Architectural Digest's Amy Astley in Mumbai while wearing an ‘Ä€kha Set’ from Zimik's Patrons Collection.
“Today, as our journey progresses, this moment feels like something I always manifested—a breakthrough for our district, our craft, and our culture,” Zimik wrote in a social media post. “For some, this may be just another outfit. But for us, it's cultural evolution.”

A core mission of the brand, Zimik explained, is to bring traditional northeastern attire like the Kashan, Mekhala, and Puan into the mainstream Indian fashion conversation, giving them a prominence equivalent to the nationally recognized saree. “Today, I truly feel that my sacrifices and restless nights are finally paying off,” Zimik expressed.

He emphasised that his brand, which is rooted in Manipur, never sought celebrity approval to validate its traditional wear, but that visibility is crucial. “In a country as beautifully diverse as India, sometimes the presence of advocates in the mainstream becomes crucial - not for permission, but for visibility and deeper cultural understanding,” he stated.

The designed emphasised the power of fashion in championing the “unheard voices” of the country, citing actor Sonam Kapoor as a key influence in bringing Indian culture into the spotlight.
Zimik said the nation's constitution celebrates “unity in diversity,” and it is essential these stories reach every corner of the nation.

“When it comes to fashion, few possess the power to champion the unheard voices of this country like Sonam Kapoor. Her influence helps bring our culture into the spotlight—not through PR activities, but through the support of genuine individuals who believe in our journey and want to amplify our voice,” he said.

Mona Lisa on ‘Zindagi Ka U-Turn’: This project felt like a turning point in my career

(Photo: PR) IANS

Mumbai,  (IANS) Actress Mona Lisa, who is stepping into a bold new chapter with the short drama, ‘Zindagi Ka U-Turn’ has called the short micro-drama “a turning point” in her career.

Reflecting on her journey with ‘Zindagi Ka U-Turn’, Mona Lisa shared, “I had been wanting to do a vertical series, so when the call came, I instantly knew I wanted to take it up. I hadn’t explored this format before, and I think it’s the next big trend. Everyone has a mobile phone, and people love watching quick, engaging content while commuting or waiting somewhere.”

She added: Short micro-dramas are fascinating because they grab your attention immediately. I even enjoy watching them myself!”

In the upcoming Pocket TV’s show, Mona Lisa takes on the role of Sonam Verma, an ambitious wife at the peak of her career, a woman who owns every room she walks into.

The series follows the story of a middle-aged street vendor whose world shatters after his wife’s betrayal, until fate takes a shocking turn when he suddenly inherits an empire worth billions.

She added: “This project felt like a turning point in my career, not only because I got to perform a very different character, but also because the story itself was so gripping. The moment people start watching Zindagi Ka U-Turn, even for 30 or 60 seconds, they’ll find themselves hooked. It’s full of twists and turns.”

The actress said that everything just fell into place so positively that saying yes felt natural.

“Overall, my experience was amazing. After having done everything from films to television serials and reality shows, this felt like exploring a completely new genre. The five-day shoot was truly memorable for me; after all, the first experience always holds a special place.”

Speaking about her character and how it is different, Mona Lisa said: “In my career, I’ve always tried to take on varied characters. Then, when I moved to television, I entered a totally different space, even playing a supernatural role.”

But this one is something she has never done before.

“In this story, my character is arrogant and shares a tumultuous relationship with her husband. While playing this character, I actually felt, Oh my God, I’m nothing like this in real life! But that’s the beauty of being an actor, getting to live lives so unlike your own. I feel grateful to have had this opportunity.”

“My director and creative team guided me beautifully, explaining every detail of the story. Later, they even told me they hadn’t expected me to perform the role with such conviction, because it’s always a challenge to portray something that’s the complete opposite of your real self.”

“So yes, this was a challenge for me, and I’m thrilled I could take it on. I always look for new roles, and Pocket TV has given me exactly that. I’m super excited and super happy.”

Speaking about doing any preparations for this role, Mona Lisa shared that the main preparation was to bring out her arrogance and dominating nature, especially towards her husband.

“During the script reading, my director, Naveen ji, guided me in understanding the tone; he wanted it loud and assertive. I built that personality in my mind and practised embodying her attitude.”She further added that her co-actor Ruslaan Mumtaz, who plays her husband Raghav, is shown as a very simple man, “while I play this sophisticated, dominating woman. That contrast helped me immensely in performing the scenes. The script itself was so strong and engaging that it made my performance flow naturally.” Mona Lisa on ‘Zindagi Ka U-Turn’: This project felt like a turning point in my career | MorungExpress | morungexpress.com

Eva Longoria says she 'loves' her failures

(Photo: Eva Longoria/ Instagram)

Los Angeles, (IANS) Hollywood actress Eva Longoria is getting liberal with her failures. The actress shared that she loves her "failures".

The former Desperate Housewives star has recalled the "struggle" of her early days, where she struggled to make ends meet before making it big as an actress and insisted she doesn't regret going through hardship because it has made her more grateful for the life she has now, reports ‘Female First UK’.

She told The Sun newspaper, “I loved my struggle, I loved when I moved to Hollywood and had six dollars in my bank account. I love my failures, that’s where you grow and learn. I was in the rat race and I was in auditions, and I was in corporate America and I was in many jobs at one time, and I struggled to pay my rent and I had a student loan and I went through that, and I would never change my experience of hardship or touching every rung of the ladder. I like that because it makes me appreciate this position I am in more now”.

As per ‘Female First UK’, the 50-year-old actress, who was previously married to Tyler Christopher and Tony Parker and has seven-year-old son Santiago with husband Jose wouldn't change anything about her past.

She said, “I wouldn’t give my younger self advice. I wouldn’t say, ‘Don’t marry that guy’ or, ‘Watch that left turn’. I don’t want to correct my mistakes. I love the path I was on, holes and all. Eva grew up on a ranch in Texas and while her father was keen for them all to live off their land, her mother used to sneak a regular treat for her four daughters. She recalled, “I loved my childhood, I grew up on a ranch, with chickens, pigs and cows. My dad made us eat off the land, we could only eat what we grew. My mum would get paid once a month, she was a teacher, and on her pay day she would get Domino’s pizza and we would eat it and hide the pizza box in the neighbour’s trash so my dad wouldn’t know we ate out. That’s how I grew up. My dad was like, ‘The land will give us what we need’”. Eva Longoria says she 'loves' her failures | MorungExpress | morungexpress.com
