With Elton John, Britney Spears releases 1st new song since 2016

With Elton John, Britney Spears releases 1st new song since 2016
Britney Spears released her first new song in six years on Friday with the debut of "Hold Me Closer", a duet with British music legend Elton John. The track -- a dance-inflected take on John's 1970s ballad "Tiny Dancer", with elements of his later hit "The One" -- dropped less than a year after Spears won a court battle with her father, ending a conservatorship arrangement that gave him control over much of her life. "Okie dokie... my first song in 6 years!!!!" Spears wrote on Twitter. "It's pretty damn cool that I'm singing with one of the most classic men of our time." The cover art features childhood images of the two pop legends, who between them have 90 years' experience in the music business. In dusting off some of his
own classics with the help of a younger artist, John is repeating a trick he pulled with last year's hit "Cold Heart", recorded with Dua Lipa. That track mashed up parts of several of his songs, most notably "Rocket Man". Spears' last release was the 2016 album "Glory". Since then, the singer -- a pop-chart colossus in the late 1990s and early 2000s -- has been in the spotlight as a result of the conservatorship that controlled her life for 13 years. In November, a Los Angeles judge formally approved the process of ending the controversial arrangement, which had given her father Jamie Spears control over almost all of her personal, professional and financial dealings. The multi-award-winning John -- properly Sir Elton John -- is one of Britain's most bankable stars, whose showmanship and musicality have left their mark on the performing arts.Since he first emerged in 1962, the singer -- born Reginald Dwight -- has been responsible for some of the most recognizable tunes in pop, including "Your Song", "Candle in the Wind" and "I'm Still Standing. Source: https://www.daily-bangladesh.com/

Miss England finalist Melisa Raouf creates history, is first woman in pageant's history to compete without makeup

AUG 29, 2022 Beauty pageant and makeup artistry are almost synonymous because of obvious presentation reasons. But one woman has made history by reaching the finals of a national beauty pageant without any makeup. Melisa Raouf, 20, is a politics student from London. By deciding to appear barefaced in Miss England this year, she became the first woman in the contest's 94-year-old history to compete without any makeup. The contest, which is organised by Angie Beasly every year, is promoted to thousands of women around England in local media. While organisers of the contest did introduce a 'Bare Faced' round in the 2019 edition, never in its history has a woman gone without makeup throughout. But Melisa has now changed that. The 20-year-old said she decided to compete barefaced in a bid to promote inner beauty and challenge the beauty ideals that are promoted and perpetuated by media, advertisers and social media. "It means a lot to me as I feel many girls of different ages wear makeup because they feel pressured to do so. If one is happy in their own skin we should not be made to cover up our face with makeup. Our flaws make us who we are and that's what makes every individual unique," the sold The Independent. "I think people should love and embrace their flaws and blemishes, as we know real beauty lies within simplicity. I never felt I met beauty standards. I have recently accepted that I am beautiful in my own skin and that's why I decided to compete with no makeup," she added. Melisa's noteworthy appearance and demeanor have earned praise from people all over the world. It has also received a response from the contest's organiser. "This is the first time I've seen a contestant completely makeup-free competing in a semi-final and she said she felt empowered against all the other contestants," said Beasley. The 20-year-old will compete with other 40 women for the Miss England crown on October 17. Copyright © Jammu Links News Source: Jammu Links News

Mask and movies: How cinema viewing has changed in post Covid era

a

After around seven months of complete closure due to the restrictions imposed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, movie theatres in the national capital reopened for the public on Friday.

The movie viewing experience has, however, changed completely, right from booking tickets till the end of the film. IANS visited one of the theatres to find out how things have changed.

Even before entering the main cinema building, the ticket counter, which is often referred to as the 'Box Office', has become completely digital in order to make the ticket buying experience completely contact-less.

Next, when one enters the building, wearing of masks is complusary and sanitisers have been deployed at short distances to keep both the staff and the viewers safe.

The food counters too have become digitalised and the food, including movie buffs' favourite popcorn, is served in a sealed container to maintain highest quality of hygiene standards.

However, despite all the safety measures in place, the theatres, whose seating capacity has already been reduced to half keeping in view the social distancing norms, saw only a handful of people who could be counted on fingertips.

Neha Chaturvedi, Unit Head, PVR Plaza, told IANS, "We are extremely happy and excited to come back and be there for our guests just like before. However, the whole cinema viewing experience has now changed completely."

"We were eagerly waiting for this decision for the last seven months," she added.

Raman, 24, who came out after watching the first show of the day, said, "A lot has changed in terms of the cinema viewing experice, from ticketing to movie watching. Though the crowd was really less, the safety arrangements are great and would reduce whatever fear people have in their minds."

Shivam, 28, who watched the second show of the day, told IANS that a lot seemed to have changed because in the post Covid-19 era, everything has to be done in a protected way and also keeping in mind the social distancing norms. Source: https://southasiamonitor.org/

Britney Spears loses court battle against father: What the next..

After months of legal wrangling and public cries for help, Spears lost a hard-fought court battle against her own father.

Spears has been under the man's thumb since 2007 when a public meltdown prompted a family court judge to establish a conservatorship that essentially gave Jamie Spears complete control of his daughter's life.

In recent months, the arrangement has come under intense scrutiny, with fans arguing that Britney is being held captive by her own family.

Some even went so far as to claim that Spears was sending coded messages to fans on her Instagram page, imploring them to intervene.

This led to online protest groups and even a few public rallies, which Jamie Spears decried as the work of uninformed conspiracy theorists.

The opposition heated up when a conservatorship hearing that had been scheduled for July was postponed due to alleged privacy concerns.

This week, Britney finally had her day in court, and her fans are likely to be deeply upset by the outcome.

According to court documents obtained by Rolling Stone, Spears' conservatorship has been extended through at least February 1, 2021.

The magazine notes that Britney's attorneys have until September 18 to appeal the decision.

The ruling comes as a shock, as Spears has recently amassed widespread support in her effort to regain control of her life.

Earlier this week, the venerable American Civi Liberties Union offered to assist with Britney's fight for independence.

"People with disabilities have a right to lead self-directed lives and retain their civil rights," the ACLU said in a tweet Wednesday.

"If Britney Spears wants to regain her civil liberties and get out of her conservatorship, we are here to help her."

"I don't know what types of disabilities or diagnoses Britney Spears has or doesn’t have, but she's being perceived by the court as a person with disabilities," ACLU lawyer Zoe Brennan-Krohn told Buzzfeed this week.

"That’s why there’s a conservatorship."

As fans pointed out throughout her campaign for increased freedom, Britney was not even asking the court for a complete termination of the conservatorship, which she acknowledged had been essential in helping her rebuild her career and personal life.

She was merely asking that her overbearing father be replaced by her manager, Jodi Montgomery.

Montgomery temporarily took over as Spears' conservator when Jamie experienced health issues in 2018 and 2019.

He resumed the role after his health improved, even though Spears apparently preferred Montgomery.

"Britney is strongly opposed to James [Jamie Spears] return as conservator of her person," reads a document filed by Britney's lawyers this week.

Every conservatorship is different, and the exact terms of Britney's remain unknown. But the singer has stated in past interviews that she's not allowed to make financial decisions, drive a car, or even leave the house without her father's permission. Source: https://www.daily-bangladesh.com/

Rs 50cr withdrawn from Sushant’s account

Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) Gupteshwar Pandey has accused the Mumbai Police of not investigating the financial angle in the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, reported that Hindustan Times.

Gupteshwar Pandey alleged that Rs 50 crore was withdrawn from the late actor’s account in the past four years, and Rs 15 crore was withdrawn in the last year alone.

“In the past four years, around Rs 50 crore was credited to the bank account of Sushant Singh Rajput but surprisingly all of it was withdrawn. In one year, Rs 17 crore was credited to his account, out of which Rs 15 crore was withdrawn. Isn’t this a crucial point to be investigated? We are not going to sit quiet. We will question them (Mumbai Police) as to why such leads are hushed up,” the DGP told the media, reports IANS.

Earlier, the DGP had alleged that Vinay Tiwari, the Patna (Central) Superintendent of Police who has been sent from Bihar to lead the investigation, was ‘forcibly quarantined’ in Mumbai.

“Instead of sharing evidence or handing over the postmortem and forensic reports of Sushant, they (Mumbai) have almost house arrested our SP. I have not seen such non-cooperation by any other state police. If the Mumbai Police are sincere in their approach, they should share the investigation with us,” he said, according to IANS.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh said in a press conference on Monday that no money was directly transferred from Sushant’s bank account to his girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty’s account. However, the police are ‘still probing’ the financial angle.

“Bihar Police FIR says Rs 15 crore were siphoned off from Sushant’s account. During the probe, we found he had Rs 18 crore in his account of which around Rs 4.5 crore are still there. Till now no direct transfer to Rhea Chakraborty’s account has been found, still probing,” the commissioner said.

Last month, Sushant’s father KK Singh filed an FIR against Rhea and her family, alleging that she misappropriated crores of rupees from the late actor’s bank account for personal expenses. Rhea has also been accused of abetment to suicide and threatening to frame Sushant for the death of his former manager, Disha Salian.

Taking cognisance of the FIR against Rhea, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a money laundering case against her and her relatives. Reportedly, she will be called in for questioning in the coming days by ED.  Source: https://www.daily-bangladesh.com
