Priyanka Chopra voted Maxim India’s Hottest Woman of 2013

Priyanka Chopra voted Maxim India’s Hottest Woman of 2013
Bollywood actress and singer Priyanka Chopra has been named the Hottest Woman of 2013 by Maxim India magazine.
The beauty graces the cover of the December issue of the magazine clad in a pristine white deep-neck dress. She flaunts her ‘Daddy’s Lil’ Girl’ tattoo and strikes a rather coy pose with a finger on her full pout. Kohled eyes and an updo make Priyanka Chopra a pretty picture. For a girl who once used to think herself ugly, being named the Hottest woman of the year certainly would be flattering.  Year 2013 may be full of ups and downs for Priyanka Chopra but it ends on a high with this honour. The actress says while professionally, the year was very happening, what with all the acclaim she won for her single ‘Exotic’ with Pitbull, she suffered a huge personal loss with the passing away of her father. “I don’t think I have dealt with the personal loss yet. I haven’t had the time to. It’s so hard to accept that he’s not there anymore,” Priyanka Chopra says about her dad’s death. Source: Article,

Ranbir Kapoor irks Shah Rukh and Salman fans

The trailer of Ranbir Kapoor’s next release ‘Besharam’ has already caused a stir in the cyber world among Shahrukh Khan fans who have reacted to the alleged digs against Shahrukh and Salman Khan made in the trailer. The clip has already received close to a million hits online and one of the scenes in it has Ranbir crooning an off-key version of ‘Tujhe Dekha To Ye Jaana Sanam’ from ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ (DDLJ) while urinating in a mustard field which is a obvious reference to one of SRK’s most popular reel moments. Another dialogue, “Naam Chulbul rakhne se, koi Dabangg nai banjaata,” has irked Salman Khan fans on the other hand. Some Salman fans took to Twitter to post tweets like,”Ranbir Kapoor mocking SRK in an iconic Tujhe Dekha song while peeing in the #Besharam trailer proves that he still needs to grow up. #crap (sic).” Yet another fan tweeted, “Ranbir copies SRK poise and Salman style. Both r impossible to do (sic).” Director Besharam Abhinav Kashyap, who had also helmed Salman’s monster hit Dabangg, explained the Khan connection saying, “There was no glimpse of Salman. Chulbul is a name, and it has come from me. I can make fun of myself.” The filmmaker said that the DDLJ number opens the trailer to convey that the film is a romantic comedy. Want to play modern Indian girl: Sonam Kapoor

New Delhi Sonam Kapoor, whose first filmSaawariya was loosely based on Fyodor Dostoevsky' short story White Nights, has bought the film rights of one of Anuja Chauhan's novels for the sheer love of its femalecharacters. Sonam, who describes herself as someone "who lives to eat and read in that order", says the book has characters that exit in reality and that's what prompted her to buy the film rights. If the story gets translated onscreen, it would be Sonam's third movie based on a novel after Aisha, which was a modern interpretation of Jane Austen's Emma and saw the actress playing a posh Delhi girl. "The idea of taking a book and turning the pages I remember have been the biggest high for me. So, it was imperative for me to play something like this before I get too old. It is about modern Indian women who exist in reality but not in Hindi cinema," she said. The actress was in the city recently to launch Chauhan's third novel 'Those Pricey Thakur Girls' by Harper Collins. The actress declined to name the book that her father Anil Kapoor's production company has acquired from Chauhan's other two novels -- 'The Zoya Factor' and 'Battle for Bittora'. Sonam says she is proud to have played some "real women" on celluloid in her short career in Bollywood. "I could play a little bit of modern Indian girl in Delhi 6 and Aisha. Both were Delhi girls. One was from Chandni Chowk while the other was from Defence colony and both girls exist." The actress believes that reading helps her to imagine new characters and places which in turn helps her as an actor. When asked about people's response to her extensive reading habit, Kapoor said, "People generally get surprised with women with brains."Source:  Express India

Interview with Actress Deepika Padukone

The actress who pumped your Heartbeat always from Om Shanti Om till the latest Race 2. The Actress who also says she might be 'Sexy' but not a 'Seductress'. The actress who is a Star and she still remains Down-To-Earth, Speaking about her Journey, Lifestyle, Link-Up's, Controversies.. Actress Deepika Padukone goes one-on-one with Faisal Saif. But you were always related to the word 'Sexy'.. I don’t believe in being in-your-face sexy. It is more of an attitude and not about clothes. But the film took it a step further and called for the character to be a sexy seductress. The entire body language had to spell it out. And as I said earlier, it’s nothing like the real me. I may be sexy, but I’m no seductress. And your character's in Race 2, Raam Leela, Chennai Express can be considered as Glamorous ones? But all my roles are so different from each other that it’s really interesting to be busy with work. Do you enjoy being in the latest bandwagon of 100 Crore Club? More than the box-office records or business figures of the film, It is the experience of shooting that I cherish. You will be shooting your upcoming film 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' in Kashmir? I have never shot in Kashmir before. I have heard so much about the place and seen its beauty only through Bollywood films. I am really looking forward to filming in the Valley. It is my first visit. It’s great that our filmmakers are rediscovering Kashmir. You were from Anupam Kher acting school, What was your first reaction when you faced the camera for the first time? I have absolutely no film background. I don't come from a film family and I had never been on a film set until my first film. In a lot of ways, it gave me a little information about what to expect. But at the same time, I think the best education I've had is to actually be on a film set and learn from there. How do you remain so down to earth despite being on the position of a 'Star'? Thank you so much for your compliments, But this because my parents who gave me this up-bringing. I look forward to my father who after gaining so much in life is still very humble and down to earth. He is my inspiration. And how was your journey as of a Down-To-Earth star? The journey was fabulous. Everyone has their Up's and Down's and everyone has to work hard. But for me, It was always a learning lesson on every step of my life. In every film, I think i have learnt something new. And it'll continue to be like that. What is Race 2? Would you tell us something about it and your character? Everyone in Race 2 has a 'Grey Shade'. Everyone wants to win the Race in the film. There's a lot of manipulations involved in each character. I play a character of a seductress called Aleena, Who uses her Looks to achieve whatever she wants. This is something very new to me. I have never played such a character in my career so far. How do you manage to deal with Controversies and Link-Up's around you? I don't react to them at all. I think all these things are a part of my profession. If i am an actress and i am into Limelight, People will definitely talk such things. I don't Focus on these things. I want people to enjoy my work. Source: India-EducationImage: flickr.com

Ranbir Kapoor to play Kishore Kumar in Anurag Basu's biopic

Ranbir Kapoor
Legendary singer-actor Kishore Kumar has become a source of inspiration for director Anurag Basu, who is making a "colourful and entertaining" biopic on him with Ranbir Kapoor in the lead. "Ranbir, UTV and I, all three of us are committed to make this film. Ranbir is busy, he is doing two films in between. After 'Barfi', Ranbir and I will come together again for this movie," said Basu. Born as Abhas Kumar Ganguly, Kishore Kumar was a popular film playback singer and crooned in various languages including Bengali, Hindi, Marathi, Assamese, Gujarati, Kannada, Bhojpuri, Malayalam and Oriya, apart from acting in a number of movies. Being the youngest of four siblings, with elder brothers like Ashok Kumar and Anoop Kumar, Kishore was more interested in becoming a singer. He was not keen on acting, but Ashok Kumar wanted him to be an actor like himself. For Basu, penning the story of the film is not an easy task, considering that Kishore Kumar was a legend. "I have started writing it. It is a very tough job to write this, as the whole world will be looking at my work. I should be happy and sure of this film before I jump into shooting it," he said. The legendary singer changed his name to Kishore Kumar and started his career as a chorus singer at Bombay Talkies. Apart from singing many melodious and popular songs like 'Maana Janaab Ne Pukara Nahin', 'Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke', 'Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhaagi Si', 'Haal Kaisa Hai Janaab Ka', 'Chhod Do Aanchal', 'Mere Saamne Wali Khidki Mein' and others, Kishore acted in films and was known for his comic timing in 'Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi', 'Dilli Ka Thug', 'Half Ticket', 'Padosan' and others. "The film will have madness of Kishoreda. I am lucky that this came to me, UTV was planning this movie, Shomit had written a script. I am a big fan of him. I think he was the most colourful person, so full of life. That's why we thought of making a biopic on his life. It will be a very entertaining film," Basu promised. "I had locked this film with Ranbir when 'Barfi' was only one schedule old. I had offered it to him and he liked the idea very much and consented to do it," Basu said. Ranbir will have to change his look to get into the boots of the stalwart singer. "We did some look test of young Kishore Kumarji on him (Ranbir). We have gone through several such processes before zeroing in on him to play Kishoreda on screen," Basu said. The film will bring back the black and white era where Kishore Kumar reigned as a comic star and trace his rise in Bollywood's playback scene. "It is a biopic so we are not taking the liberty to make our own story. There are a lot of things that people don't know about him," Basu said. Kishore Kumar's son Amit Kumar is involved at every stage to provide inputs for the film, Basu revealed. "The family does not have a problem with the film. They have already given the green signal. They are helping us out a lot with his personal things, secrets, which the people are not aware of," he said. Kishore Kumar had married four times. His first wife was Bengali singer and actress Ruma Ghosh. Their marriage lasted from 1950 to 1958. He later married actress Madhubala, who had worked with him in many films including his home production 'Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi' (1958) and 'Jhumroo' (1961). They got married when she was sick with a heart ailment. However, the marriage was also strained and lasted nine years, ending with Madhubala's death in 1969. Later, Kishore married Yogeeta Bali in 1976, but separated in 1978. Then he was married to actress Leena Chandavarkar from 1980 until his death. He has two sons, Amit Kumar (playback singer) with Ruma, and Sumit Kumar with Leena. Meanwhile, speculations are rife that Katrina Kaif might be signed to play Madhubala in the film. "We have not thought of anyone as a leading lady yet. As of now only the three of us (Basu, UTV and Ranbir) are final," he said. SourceIndian Express

Anushka Sharma proud to be 'Yash Raj Heroine'

Anushka Sharma is so proud to be part of late Yash Chopra’s last movie ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan,’ that she doesn’t care much for the box office result. The actress has admitted that she signed the movie, also starring Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif, because it was Chopra’s. “I didn’t need anything else to attract me to the role,” Sharma said in an interview with Gulf News. “The fact that Yash Chopraji wanted me in his film and that I am going to be a ‘Yash Raj Heroine’ was an attraction enough,” she stated. “For any actor, it’s a huge dream because he’s a brand in himself. And to get that chance so early in my career and for that dream to naturalise so early is superb,” she added. Chopra, known as one of Bollywood’s most influential filmmakers for making lavish love stories, died at the age of 80 after contracting dengue fever last month. Jab Tak Hai Jaan, to be released tomorrow is a love triangle, a premise that the late legendary director Chopra had perfected. And Sharma will not be affected much even if the movie fails to do well at the box-office because in her eyes being directed by the legendary filmmaker Chopra and acting alongside King Khan is what all means to her. “This film has gained a special place in my heart. Whether it will do well or not … it’s too special for me to be concerned about all of that,” she said. She will cherish the memory of working under the late Chopra forever. “The time I spent with Yashji is the best memory I would take back from this film. Three words that describe him aptly would be warmth, humble and child-like,” she added. Source: Screen-India

Barfi! is India's entry for Oscars in Foreign Film category

The magic of Anurag Basu's Barfi! has worked. The heartwarming movie, about love between a deaf and mute boy and an autistic girl, has been chosen as India's official entry for the Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category. The decision was taken at a Film Federation of India (FFI) meeting in Hyderabad Saturday night. "Barfi! has indeed been chosen as the country's official entry this year," FFI secretary general Suparn Sen said. The movie, starring Ranbir Kapoor as Murphy aka Barfi, and Priyanka Chopra as Jhilmil, has been lauded in film circles for its simplistic and moving narrative that has managed to tug at the heartstrings of audiences which equally enjoy commercial potboilers. The makers are joyous about the news. "We are honoured that Barfi! has been selected to represent India as its official entry tothe Academy Awards 2013. 'Barfi!' is very close to the hearts of all of us at UTV, and it gives us great satisfaction that a film we have developed and nurtured from its inception has met with so much love from audiences and critics worldwide," Siddharth Roy Kapur, managing director - Studios, Disney UTV, said in a statement. "An added source of pride is that this is the fourth UTV film in the last seven years to have been selected to represent India at the Academy awards; our earlier selections being Rang De Basanti (2006), Harishchandrachi Factory (2009) and Peepli Live (2010)," he added. Barfi! released September 14, and is still drawing full houses in theatres. Barfi! is a moving tale of love beyond words - between a deaf and mute boy Murphy, played by Ranbir Kapoor, and an autistic girl Jhilmil, essayed effortlessly by the National award-winning Priyanka Chopra. Southern actress Ileana D'Cruz, who has made her Bollywood debut with the movie, has also left a strong impact with her performance. The film has been hailed in cinematic circles for its simplistic, yet heartwarming treatment. The viewers are expected to understand the nearly mute narrative through sign language and the beauty is that they do. Filmmakers like Karan Johar and celebrities like megastar Amitabh Bachchan have praised the "masterpiece" and Basu is thankful to them all. Johar said he felt "talentless" after watching "Barfi!" "It is really overwhelming when people praise your film. For me, Karan Johar's comment means a lot. Karan Johar's message was very humbling. It takes courage and you need a big heart to praise any other director. I also received some great messages, one from Big B as well. It feels great when people admire you," he said. Source: Hindustan Times

Movie Review: Barfi! is a must-watch

Movie Review: Barfi! is a must-watch
The ApunKaChoice movie review of Barfi!. It’s a great achievement for a Hindi film about deaf, mute, and autistic characters to not wallow in sympathy or self-pity, let alone pipe a grandiose ‘triumph of the human spirit’ kinda message down our throats. Barfi, a sweet, saline, emotive, evocative, witty, imaginative, heartfelt cinematic delicacy, steers happily clear of these stereotypes and tells us a story that leaves one deeply moved, though not without a few gripes. Set in Darjeeling and Kolkata, the story flits about non-linearly from present day to 1976 to 1972 to tell the tale of a mischievous and lively Barfi (Ranbir Kapoor), a deaf-and-mute livewire with always a trick or prank up his sleeve and a local cop (Saurabh Shukla) down his tail. He falls for Shruti (Ileana D'Cruz) already engaged to a handsome hunk in a Kolkatan college and three months away from her wedding. Barfi’s vivacity rubs off on her, but it’s a love story doomed to end in a separation. A family tragedy brings another girl into the picture. Jhilmil (Priyanka Chopra) is an autisticgirl from a rich family an uncaring father and apathetic mom. Director Anurag Basu weaves a rather gratuitous kidnapping plot into the story and Barfi is foisted with caring for Jhilmil whom he likes and slowly begins to love without realizing it until she’s taken away from him. Will this love story of Barfi also end in separation? It’s a sweet, charming, but complex tale told simply and smartly. It’s a story laced with humour and heartache in equal measure, but never does it get glum. Never do Barfi’s silences not speak, never does his self-sacrificing love not bring a tear to your eye, never do his antics fail to bring a smile. A viewer laughs through the tears, and cries between the giggles. Such is the overpowering effect of this marvelous film by Anurag Basu. It’s well-nigh a cinematic masterpiece from a director who knows his craft well. A masterpiece but for the little botch up Basu conjures in the form of a rather garbled sub-plot regarding a kidnapping intrigue in Jhilmil’s family. That’s my only gripe. But it’s a minor one. Rising to the challenge are the three lead players, Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D’Cruz. With Barfi! Ranbir elevates himself to the status of a seasoned actor slipping effortlessly into the skin of the character and giving a performance that simply leaves one stunned. Kudos to him and Priyanka Chopra -- an actress with experimental streak and talent that seldom gets the praise it deserves -- who is unbelievably convincing as the autistic Jhilmil, with her convulsive, erratic body language and a highly expressive face. Kudos also for Ileana D’Cruz for a winsome portrayal of a girl who can’t follow her heart, and when she learns to, it’s too late. Ileana’s is the most impressive Bollywood debut this year, and it would be a shame if she’s ignored at the awards. Last but not the least, kudos to Anurag Basu for a film that’s honest, wonderful, well-written, superbly directed and with a music (Pritam) one won’t forget in a hurry. It’s a story coming straight from the heart and goes straight to the heart. A connect most potent in any form of storytelling. In short, Barfi! is a cinematic tour-de-force one shouldn’t miss. It’s a must-watch. Source: ApunKaChoice

Joker’- the film starring megastar Akshay Kumar & Sonakshi Sinha is said to be a another big film for the year. After a blockbuster like Rowdy Rathore, audiences are keen to see the couple again rocking together. Being a film produced by successful Filmmaker Farah Khan, the expectations are high from Joker which is releasing on 31st August 2012. Though film is much awaited, the little disappointment for the fans is the length of the film. The film is only on 105 minutes which will be the shortest masala entertainer film. On the top of it, it is also reportedly said that Akshay Kumar is not fully satisfy with the way film is been made. He therefore didn’t appear much for the promotion of the film. Repotedly Akshay was also upset that Farah took the Aliens of  films to meet Shah Rukh Khan. Well all the speculations are at their place about the future of the film but main news is that Joker is the shortest commercial multi-starrer film ever made in Bollywood. But the makers of the film taking this positively saying, shorter length will mean they can schedule more shows at multiplexes. Source: Page3
